(KTNC) - Peru State senior Sarah Williams has qualified for the NAIA National Cross Country Championship. Williams, of Hiawatha, qualified for the National Meet thanks to a fourth place finish Saturday at the Heart of America Athletic Conference meet in Lamoni (luh-moe-nye), Iowa.
Williams was just a few seconds off her personal best, with a time of 18:56.3 over the 5-kilometer course. Lauren Jaqua of Baker University won the race in 18:11.4.
As a team, Peru State finished seventh out of nine schools that competed. Central Methodist won the meet with 32 points. Baker University was second with 62 points, and Benedictine was third with 82 points. Peru State totaled 187 team points.
Other finishers for the Bobcats were Danielle Prchal, 40th overall, in 21:24.7; Kristen Penney, 43rd, with a personal best time of 21:38.8; Kesha Beethe of Tecumseh, 54th, in 22:16.6; and Danielle Aldrich, 66th, in 24:33.3.
The top team and five additional individuals qualified for the National Championships, which will be held November 17th in Vancouver, Washington.
For Williams, this will be her second trip to the NAIA championships.
