Auburn City Council Approves Street Plan and Eliminates Fire Pits From Burn Ban
02/11/2014

(KLZA) -- The Auburn City Council approved on final reading Monday night an ordinance to exempt properly operated and supervised recreational fire pits from the city burning ban.  Mayor Scott Kudrna said a large number of citizens had expressed their displeasure with the proposed ordinance. The ordinance passed exempts fire pits from the ban.

The Council conducted a public hearing on the one and six year street plan. Following the hearing the plan was approved.  Projects included in the plan call for resurfacing the intersection 22nd and N Street near Calvert Elementary School;  armor coating of O and P Streets;  Some projects that are currently not funded is storm sewer work from around 11th and L Streets to 9th and N Street.  This is an undersized storm sewer that needs to be completed before Courthouse Avenue can be improved, a project on the six-year plan.

Another big project in Auburn this year will be the resurfacing of Highway 136 through town.  That is a state project scheduled for this spring and summer.  No action was taken on a request from the Trinity Church and Preschool for a STOP sign at N Street and 20th Street intersection.  More study of the traffic pattern will be conducted prior to a decision being made.

Council members did approve the appointments of Derrick Hemmingsen to the Planning Commission and Mike Zaruba to the Board of Public Works. The Council also accepted real estate at 1217, 9th Street from the heirs of the deceased owner of the dilapidated property.  The City will pay the delinquent property taxes, have a controlled burn of the structure and then offer the cleaned up property to someone wanting to build a home.
