(KLZA) -- By unanimous vote Monday night during a special meeting of the Auburn City Council, a resolution was adopted to deny a driveway access from Highway 136 to a parking lot on the south side of the highway between 817 Central Avenue and 901 Central Avenue.
The driveway entrance was to be built as part of the Highway 136 reconstruction project that is underway in Auburn. Safety concerns about entering the busy street from the parking lot were cited as a reason to stop the driveway from being constructed.
The Highway 136 project did begin Monday with the intersection of highways 75 and 136 tore up so it can be rebuilt in two to three weeks. All semi-trucks are being re-routed around Auburn.
The highway reconstruction project is being done in sections and will be completed during this construction season.
