(KLZA) -- The Highway 136 reconstruction project in Auburn continues. Mayor Scott Kudrna says semi truck traffic has been a problem in the community. Trucks have been traveling side-streets while the project has been underway and damage has been done to storm sewer grates and utility poles.
Semi’s not making deliveries or that are not local are not to be in Auburn while the highway project is underway.
During Monday night’s Auburn City Council meeting an ordinance was adopted on quick-track authorizing use of 4-wheel ATV’s and UTV’s and or Side-by-Sides to legally use the streets and roads in Auburn. Mayor Kudrna provided a list of the regulations for those operating the vehicles. To operate these vehicles on the streets of Auburn, it must be done only between sunrise and sunset; the driver must be at least 19 years of age and have a valid drivers license; the driver must have liability insurance coverage; the vehicle cannot travel over 30 miles per hour; the vehicle must have a headlight and a taillight on; a bicycle flag with a minimum of 30 square inches of day-glow color must be attached to the rear of the vehicle and extend at least five feet above the street. In addition ATV passengers under 19 year of age must wear an approved helmet.
Auburn Council members also approved a resolution re-designating an area of the City as Blighted and Substandard so the community may apply of a second grant for downtown revitalization.
