(KLZA)-- Auburn City Council members heard an update on the long-discussed West Waterline Project Monday evening. Mayor Scott Kudrna says the committee consisting of the Utilities, City, CRA Committee and Planning Commission are discussing ways to get the project accomplished.
The price tag when first discussed was estimated at around $500,000, last time it was reviewed the price project had jumped to around $600,000 and now the estimate is approximately $725,000.
Mayor Kudrna says the City is in a better financial situation with CRA funds, TIFF monies and city funds to pay for a portion. Originally, it was going to need to be Utility Department electrical funds to pay for the water line. Kudrna says it will be at least 2017 before construction of the line, which would serve about 50-percent of the city in addition to new water customers could start.
Even with the improved funding situation, it is likely there would still be assessments on property owners who are not currently receiving water service.
Kudrna calls it a worthwhile project the city just needs to figure out how to get done.
