Auburn City Council Receives Budget Proposal
08/15/2013

(KLZA) -- Auburn City Council members received a presentation on the 2013-14 fiscal year budget when they met this week.  Mayor Scott Kudrna said there are no raises for city employees at this time since the new valuation is not known.

Currently Auburn owes around $1.5 million on various bonds.  Mayor Kudrna said he would like to see the City continue to make $332,000 bond payments until the bonds are paid off, which would create more breathing room in the budget.

Some of the big ticket items for the new budget include $283,000 for a contract for Nemaha County to provide law enforcement in the City.  $134,000 for the library;  $63,000 for various equipment purchases;  $150,000 for repair to the 9th Street sewer which is the truck route;  $66,000 for the parks and recreation department and $35,000 for the fire department plus an additional $16,000 for gear and $20,000 in a sinking fund toward a new fire truck.

Mayor Kudrna says the budget is basically a zero balance budget.
