Auburn City Council Approves Final Payment For Water Plant
12/12/2013

(KLZA) -- The Auburn City Council has approved a negotiated agreement for a final settlement with Ericksen Construction on the Auburn Water Plant.  Legal action was taken when the company disagreed with the Auburn Board of Public Works on the final payment due to the plant not being finished by the contract date.

The Board of Public Works estimated Erickson was owed $43,000 as a final payment while the company claimed the bill amounted to $272,000.  The Auburn BPW claimed the lower amount due to the extra time to complete the project and work the BPW did they thought Erickson should have done.

After negotiations between the attorney’s the final amount agreed to be paid is $142,500.

In other action Monday night the Auburn Council approved a number of draw downs for Community Development Block Grant monies for owner occupied rehabilitation projects.

Ordinance amendments were also approved allowing the Board of Public Works to file liens against real property for delinquent sewer and water accounts, meaning Council action is no longer necessary to file the liens.

First round approval was given to an ordinance concerning recreational fire put use.  Mayor Kudrna says he would like to receive input from the public on the fire pit ordinance during the next two readings of the ordinance. Law enforcement is having issues with fire pits based on interpretation of the current city ordinance.  Under current rules fire pits are not allowed to burn after 4 p-m.

On first reading the Council approved fire pits must be 20 feet away from structures, must be put out by 1 a-m and must always be attended when burning.  Mayor Kudrna says he would like to hear public input on the ordinance during the newt two readings.

A copy of the proposed ordinance is available on the City of Auburn website and at City Hall.
