(KAIR) -- Letters of concern sent to state officials, regarding to the disparity in some Atchison County property valuation assessments, leads to a response from Governor Sam Brownback.
On Wednesday, Atchison County Commissioners received a call from the Governor's office; and Commission Chairman Jeff Schuele says that indicates foward movement on addressing the matter: ( Play audio )
Schuele says his goal is to soon receive word from the state's Property Valuation Division that the issue can be resolved: ( continue audio )
Many county property owners under the “other” category recently had land valuations jump from 10 dollars an acre to 11 hundred dollars an acre as part of a State Supreme Court decision on classification of land in Sumner County.
Atchison County was one of only five counties that enacted the recent ruling in their assessments.
