USD 430 South Brown County; Congratulations to our HES Charger All-Stars this week! These students are doing a great job of Putting First Things First. Keep up the good work and remember what Big Rocks need to be completed first. 12-21-22

K-State College of Education - Kylie Hutfles Outstanding Undergraduate

Kylie Hutfles, elementary education, Horton, is being recognized as a College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient and will graduate summa cum laude. She served as president and executive advisor of the College of Education’s EdCats Council and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She received the Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship, Jack J. Isgur Foundation Scholarship, Gladys Ross Carlson Adelphe Scholarship and Krystal D. Aarstad Memorial Scholarship.

In addition to being a full-time student, Kylie worked as a library assistant for the College of Veterinary Medicine and as an emergency substitute for USD 430 South Brown County and Manhattan-Ogden USD 383. She also volunteered at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.

Sabetha Middle School Completes Gingerbread Houses

Sabetha Middle School Science teacher Mrs. Burger's Gingerbread Houses are complete! The students were given a set of criteri that they had to meet in building thier delicious creations for a fun end of the year project.

Residents and staff of the Sabetha Apostolic Home were blessed last week by the Sabetha High School choir. They sang beautiful Christmas Songs for everyone. 

NCHS Kay Club Snowball

The NCHS KAY Club has announced this year's Snowball King and Queen candidates and underclassman attendants!
King Candidates: Brayden Uphaus, Blake Stallbaumer, and Jaden Thomas
Queen Candidates: Ella Larkin, Emilie Strahm, and Lilly Schultejans
Attendants: Kailey Mady and Jayden Seitz (FR), Kylee Sperfslage and Cooper Kramer (JR), and Reagan Gerety and Abram Keim (SO)
Crowning of this year's King and Queen will be Tuesday, January 10th and the annual Snowball Dance will be Saturday, January 14th.

Atchison HS Scholar's Bowl

Congratulations to Dr. Ogle and members of the Atchison HS Scholar’s Bowl team on their first place finish, out of 16 teams, at the Varsity tournament in Ottawa.

Sabetha Middle School Tour

At Sabetha Middle School Mrs. Badertscher’s 7th Grade STEM classes visited Valley View Milling in Bern, KS to learn about what happens to corn after it leaves the field. They got to see where the grain is stored and how the feed is loaded for delivery. The students also got to see the milling process, both for pelleted and grain-mixed feeds.

Royal Valley Proposed New Building

Construction is scheduled to begin at Royal Valley on a new Art, Agriculture, and Band building after the holidays. Here is a sneak peak of the building that will replace the existing metal building behind the high school. Royal Valley USD 337

Horton Students Selected for Honor Band

Five Horton High School students were selected to participate in the 2022 NE Kansas Music Educators Association 9th grade Honor Band. The band rehearsed and performed at the NEKMEA District Mini-Convention on Saturday, December 3rd at Seaman HS in Topeka.
Students from HHS were (L to R) Tori Jelks - french horn, Julie Lowe - clarinet, Brooklyn Dvorak - clarinet, Carter Thorpe - trumpet, and Ellis Goben - euphonium.

Nemaha Central Students Visit Windfarm

Last Friday, 16 NC students visited the Soldier Creek Wind Farm as part of the School to Business (S2B) Connections program.
The program was formed to give students a look into business opportunities that can be found in our rural area, as well the skills businesses look for in potential employees.
Isaac Sulsona, Associate Wind Site Manager, shared information about how the wind turbines work to produce energy and allowed students a chance to look inside! The wind turbine technicians were available to answer questions and explain the details of their jobs.

Horton Student to Participate in God Band

Horton High School student Taylor Dvorak, clarinet, auditioned for and was selected to participate in the 2022 NE Kansas Music Educators Association Gold Band. The band rehearsed and performed at the NEKMEA District Mini-Convention on Saturday, December 3rd at Seaman HS in Topeka.

Falls City Middle School Awards

Each month Falls City Middle School students and staff nominate students for engaging in acts of kindness throughout the school day.  Students and staff nominate other students during the month.  One student from each grade is then selected at the end of the month who has continually demonstrated kindness throughout the school day.  The school buys lunch for the winners from the restaurant of their choice.  Our November 2022 winners are pictured from left to right:

Royal Valley High School Courts Candidates

Royal Valley HS King and Queen of Courts candidates: Henry Mitchell, Alysa Ladson, Aven Mitchell, Morgan Davis, Mikey Wamego and Tressa Jim. The crowning ceremony will be Friday, Dec. 16 during the basketball games vs Riverside.
