Celebrating a Lifetime of Service: Merle Veigel Named 2026 Cobblestone Grand Marshal

We are proud to announce Merle Veigel as the Grand Marshal of the 2026 Cobblestone Parade! 

 

A 1966 graduate of Falls City High School, Merle has spent decades serving and strengthening the Falls City community. He enjoyed a long career with First National Bank, now F&M Bank-, serving as President of both institutions before retiring and continuing his service as a member of the Board of Directors.

 

Merle also dedicated an incredible 35 years to the Falls City Board of Public Works, including many years as Chairman, helping oversee the utilities that serve our community.

 

His commitment to Falls City extends far beyond his professional career. Over the years, Merle has served with the Falls City Rotary Club, Falls City Student Aid Fund, Falls City Educational Foundation, Community Medical Center Foundation, Falls City Industrial Development Corporation, Richardson County Policy Board, and Sacred Heart Catholic School Foundation. He has also been active at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and is a longtime member of the Clefsmen.

 

Merle's decades of leadership, volunteerism, and dedication to Falls City make him a wonderful choice to lead this year's Cobblestone Parade.

Horton Welcomes Polish University Student for Summer Exchange Program

Szymon Bookman Binger is a University student from Poland doing his summer exchange program here in Horton!

He has completed the necessary paperwork and obtained permits from the city hall to go door-to-door selling books to help families with education. He does not represent, nor is affiliated with, any school. This is a summer program to help him pay his way through University.

If he knocks on your door, please know he is fully permitted and if you are not interested he will simply thank you for your time and move on.
