Highland College Students Learn Proper Safety Gear

Highland College Western Campus Medical Assistant students spent a day practicing how to correctly put on and remove Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) an essential skill for anyone entering the healthcare field.
From gloves and gowns to masks, these students are learning the safety procedures that keep both patients and providers protected.

Nemaha Central Participates in Seneca's Festival of the Trees

NCEMS is participating in the festival of trees at Castle Hall! You can see this tree featured at the Fire Department Musuem. Half of the proceeds that comes from the sale of these 3 foot decorated trees goes to the Nemaha County Museums. Trees are available to bid on at each of the Seneca Museums on Sunday, December 23rd. 

Highland College Students Learn to Stop the Bleed

The NVCH Industrial Wellness department and Nemaha County EMS provided STOP THE BLEED® training/education along with an AED/CPR refresher to students at Highland Community College Western Center.
This initiative is a FREE educational service that NVCH gladly provide our community, both businesses and community members! Contact Becky Bartkoski at 785-336-6181 with and questions regarding our STOP THE BLEED® initiative!
The purpose of the STOP THE BLEED® campaign is to make us as a community more resilient by encouraging bystanders to become trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before emergency responders arrive.

Hiawatha Scouts Food Drive Results

Thank you Hiawatha residents for your generous donations! Boy Scout Troop 313 and Pack #117 picked up in the City of Hiawatha 1,800 pounds of food for the annual "Scouting for Food Drive"! The amount of donations filled their flat bed trailer. Awesome job Scouts! 

Axtell Students Learn About Important Health Information

On World Diabetes Day, Nemaha Valley Community Hospital’s own Becky Bartkoski, RN, BSN and Diabetes Educator spent time with a great group of young students from Axtell Public School talking about Diabetes.
Becky helped the students learn what diabetes is, what signs and symptoms to watch for, and how they can support friends or classmates who are living with it.
We’re grateful for opportunities like this to partner with our local schools and empower kids with knowledge that can make a real difference in someone’s life.

Holton Volleyball Team Blew Their Fundraising Record Out Of The Water!

The Holton Volleyball team has raised a record amount during their 2025 Pink Out. The record for the past 2 years was $7000 to give to a local recipient that is battling cancer or still paying down bills from previous treatments. This year the team blew the record out of the water! They raised $10,000. The seniors lead the charge as they broke the team up into 7 different Pink Out Teams. Teams included students that were freshmen through seniors. This year's local recipient was elated with being selected, she is also the mom of our senior players. 

Sabetha KAY Club Serves Veteran's

The Sabetha High School KAY club spent time serving breakfast to those who have served us all at the Veteran’s breakfast at Buzz Cafe!

Contratulations Sage Popejoy!

Congratulations to Hiawatha High School Music Student Sage Popejoy for being selected to perform in the Northeast Kansas All-District Choir. Sage will now travel to Topeka on December 6th to perform with 200 other students from Northeast Kansas.

Marshall County Arts Cooperative Thanks Walmart for Donation

Marshall County Arts Cooperative thanks Walmart, for providing $1,000 in funding to finish the capital improvement project at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art. The new chairs were put to work Saturday night at Dueling Divas, Divos & Duets, and the flooring is being installed now.
Thank you, Walmart—and to all of our supporters who helped us raise the funds quickly.

Nemaha County STEP Foundation Distributes 3 Grants

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the STEP Foundation is celebrating the season of giving by distributing grant funding to three local organizations that serve Nemaha County communities.

Best Life Community Services, which supports individuals affected by intellectual and developmental disabilities, received an $8,200 grant from the General Fund, Chad Baker Memorial Fund, and Glen J. Meyer Fund. The funding allowed the organization to purchase a wheelchair lift van to better assist its residents. 

 

USD 115 Nemaha Central also received a $4,000 grant from the CNB/CNB Custody/Invisor Underprivileged Children Fund. The funds provide coats, hats, shoes, and other necessities to children in need within the district. 

 

The final grant distribution was for $3,000 to Kasha Rebant in support of the recent Sabetha Playground Project. Kasha Rebant shared the impact of the Sabetha Playground Partners new playground thanks to the help of the STEP Foundation. “Thank you so much to the Nemaha County STEP Foundation for investing in the lives of children and families in our community through your generous support of the inclusive playground project. The new design has already created opportunities like never before for children and adults of all abilities to play and socialize
together. Our hope is that this playground will continue to serve as a space for children and adults of all abilities to enjoy the many benefits of play. Thank you for your generosity towards this mission.

Highland Community College Welding students had the opportunity to tour Landoll Corporation and learn more about the incredible equipment, facilities, and career opportunities the company has to offer!

Axtell Eagles Soar For a Cause!

The Axtell students and staff raised an amazing $6,003.96 in the Penny War to support Daniel Childress and his family!
What started as a friendly class competition turned into an incredible show of generosity and community spirit. We’re so proud of our Eagle family for coming together to make a difference! 

Marshall County Arts Cooperative Duo Winners

Results are in for the Marshall County Arts Cooperative contest for "Dueling Divas, Divos & Duets."

Marshall County’s Ultimate Diva is Megin Jacques, performing Handel’s Ch’io Mai Vi Possa from the opera Siroe—the first time in Diva history an aria has been performed on our stage.

Runner-up honors go to Ashley Maughlin for a powerhouse take on Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m the Only One.”

Claiming the Duet category: Charlotte Naaf & Grant Haefele—Charlotte on Miranda Lambert’s “Vice,” with Grant on guitar.

Marysville FFA Named Top 10 in the Nation!!! Thank you to our community, Marysville Ag Boosters & FFA Alumni and Marysville Exempted Village School District staff and administration. Our members focus on collaborative projects to spread the message of Agriculture. This magnifies their impact - an impact that could not reach as far as it does without you!!
Congratulations to our members!! What is even more remarkable is that these students do it not for the award on stage but for the impact on others. That is probably why they have been name TOP 10 In THE NATION 3 times in the last 12 years!!! Keep making a difference. The world will notice - but most importantly they will feel the difference!!!

Way To Go Peyton, Marysville Elementary Student!

Huge congratulations to Peyton for winning the CHAMPS Drawing and getting to be "Principal of the Day" at Marysville Elementary School!
He spent the day shadowing the Mrs. Doebele, helping with everything from lunchroom monitoring to important admin tasks around the school. What an incredible, hands-on experience!

Courtney is known for her cheerful personality, positive energy, and community spirit. She takes pride in producing high-quality marketing materials that highlight NVCH’s services and tell the story of how we care for our patients and community.
In addition to her marketing work, Courtney is passionate about advocating for rural health care in Kansas. She works to promote the importance of supporting local hospitals and ensuring access to quality care close to home. Her dedication to the people we serve is evident in her willingness to go above and beyond—such as staying late in the evenings to assist individuals with Marketplace health insurance enrollments, helping ensure community members have the coverage they need.
Courtney’s compassion shines through in every aspect of her life. One especially heartwarming example is her kindness in driving a community member to football games so they can continue enjoying something they love despite being unable to drive.
