Thank you, Marysville Officer LaFleur

A huge shoutout to Officer LaFleur from the Marysville Kansas Police Department for stopping by Marysville Elementary School to grab lunch with our students! ????????
It’s about more than just a shared meal; these moments are vital for building a foundation of trust, safety, and friendship between our youth and local law enforcement. Five Area High Schools Participate in Annual Youth Tour Competition

6 students from five area high schools participated in the Axtell Electric Cooperative annual Youth Tour competition. This competition is designed to educate and inspire local high school students about electric cooperatives, leadership and civic engagement.
First, we tested their cooperative knowledge with a short true/false and multiple-choice test. Later the students were presented to our Board of Trustees to give a presentation on themselves and why they feel they would be a good representative for our cooperative. The board then had a short question and answer session with each candidate. Scores were compiled from the tests and interviews to determine the winner.
The winner, Arielle Lindeen, of Axtell High School, will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. While there she will join other students from across the nation to learn firsthand about government, history, and the role electric cooperatives play at the national level.
Second place, Lincoln Menold, of Sabetha High School, will receive an all-expense paid trip to Steamboat Springs in Colorado, where he will get a unique educational experience focused on leadership development, teamwork and exploration.
Congratulations to both of these young leaders and thank you to all the candidates for participating in our Youth Tour competition, it is always a fun day for our employees and board members to get to meet all of you.

Seneca Saints Peter and Paul School Honors Christina Lierz

It is a great honor to recognize our kindergarten teacher Christina Lierz as the 2026 Sts. Peter and Paul School Distinguished Graduate.
Christina’s story is deeply rooted in this community. She graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul School in 1985, completing eighth grade right here, where the foundation of faith and learning was first planted. She went on to earn her teaching degree from Kansas State University, and from there devoted her life to Catholic education and service.
Now in her 32nd year of teaching, Christina returned home to Sts. Peter and Paul School—not just as an alumna, but as an educator called to serve. For more than three decades, her classroom has been a place where faith and learning meet. She has helped shape generations of students academically, spiritually, and socially, consistently modeling Catholic values through her patience, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
Christina’s commitment to the mission of Sts. Peter and Paul School is evident in everything she does. She leads with a servant’s heart, always placing the needs of her students and families first, and her faithfulness has left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Beyond her service here, Christina and her husband Mike, are active members of her home parish, Sacred Heart in Sabetha, further reflecting their deep-rooted faith and commitment to the Catholic community.
Through her lifelong dedication, servant leadership, and profound influence on generations of families, Christina Lierz truly exemplifies the ideals of a Distinguished Graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul School.
Congratulations Mrs. Lierz, our 2026 Distinguished Graduate.

Nemaha County Stays Prepared for Any Emergency

Representatives from Nemaha Valley Community Hospital & Seneca Family Practice, Sabetha Community Hospital/sabetha Family Practice, and Nemaha County EMS played in a Medical Response Surge Exercise (MRSE) facilitated by Nemaha County KS Emergency Management. This exercise was conducted state-wide and was created by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and a planning committee comprised of health officials and emergency managers, including our very own EM director (Eddie Aldrine).
This exercise was conducted in response to the FIFA World Cup coming to the Kansas City Metro this summer. In the exercise's scenario, a strong line of severe thunderstorms impacted the state during the World Cup, causing over SEVEN HUNDRED patients across the state including several in Nemaha County. Exercises such as this one helps our local area healthcare partners work together to deal with a complex incident in a no-fault environment.

Thank you Trooper Ben!

Our Rainbow Communications team had the privilege of hearing from retired Kansas State Trooper @TrooperBenKS, who joined us to talk about the powerful impact of attentiveness—and the real-life consequences of inattentiveness.
Drawing from his years of service, Trooper Ben shared life-saving and life-risking examples that reminded us all how being fully present matters in everything we do. While his stories came from the highway, the message applies everywhere—especially in how we interact with others. You never know when someone simply needs to feel heard, seen, or supported.
We’re grateful to Trooper Ben for taking the time to visit Rainbow and challenge us to be more attentive in our work, our service, and our daily lives. And yes—we hope he enjoyed our employee chili cookoff, too! ????????? Congratulations to Lindsay Matthias from our accounting department, who took home the trophy this year.
Thank you, Trooper Ben, for the reminder that attentiveness can truly make a difference—for ourselves and for others. ????

Falls City ESports Program Donation

Thank you to the Falls City Elks Lodge #963 and to the Falls City Tiger Booster Club for their generous donations of $488 each to the FCT ESports Program.
After the Booster Club graciously donated to help the program purchase one of five new mini PCs and a monitor last week, Racy Hullman, a member of the Booster Club and Elks Lodge, kindly reached out to the Elks Lodge for the esports program when she heard the program's goal was to add five mini PC setups to help support their growing program and provide more opportunities for student-athletes to access additional practice and competition times to be able to remain at a competitive level across the state of Nebraska in the Nebraska Schools ESports Association (NSESA), which has over 130 schools now that are broken into four divisions based on their enrollment; Falls City is a Division 3 school.
From these two donations, Coach Huppert and Coach Syslo will be able to purchase two of the five setups they are working on getting for the program. The program is very grateful for the help from both organizations.
All the equipment the esports program uses has been purchased through grants and help from local organizations willing to support the program over the last six years. If you are interested in helping the program reach it's goal of five, please reach out to Coach Kory Huppert at khuppert@fallscityps.org.
The FCT ESports Program on average has around thirty-five student-athletes from Grades 7-12 competing throughout the school year in two 3-4 month long seasons, and has another 15-20 sixth graders for their after school club on Wednesdays to provide those students with an additional opportunity at activities to help motivate them to be their best academically. All students have to meet eligibility requirements for the middle and high schools in order to compete.

Marysville Police Celebrate Law Enforcement Day with Students

We told them we’d have no mercy… but little did we know, they came prepared and absolutely destroyed us.
Great work, students! We’ll be practicing and bringing the heat with us next year.

Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Reminds Us to Give Blood

January is National Blood Donor Month, a time to honor those who give and to raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations. Winter is one of the most difficult times of year for maintaining an adequate blood supply due to illness, weather, and busy schedules—creating shortages that can significantly impact rural hospitals like Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.
A reliable blood supply is essential for trauma care, surgeries, cancer treatments, and emergency situations. When shortages occur, rural facilities may experience delays in receiving the blood products needed for patient care. Your donation truly makes a difference.

Marysville Black Squirrel of the Year Finalists Announced
All year long, we’ve been nuts about the volunteers who keep Marysville moving. Our partners voted, and that big list has now been narrowed to three finalists for Black Squirrel of the Year. The award will be presented at Celebrate Marysville on Saturday, January 10, at Venue 36. The public is invited. Reservations are due today. Call 785-562-3101.

Steve Blumer
Steve Blumer gets things done and never needs a spotlight to do it. He’s the one who shows up with a skid steer and a plan, whether it’s clearing the old tennis courts for what’s next or helping turn the depot parking lot into green space. From tackling tough work at the Landoll Family Sports Complex to building lasting improvements at the Black Squirrel Bark Park, Steve keeps showing up where progress needs muscle and follow-through.

Max Searcey
Max Searcey shows loyalty at home the same way he does in the stands. He’s helped shape community life for decades, from starting Marysville Magic to expanding opportunities through Marysville Sport & Recreation and coaching girls’ softball for more than 30 years. Max also has a quiet way of taking care of people when it matters most, helping families through hard seasons without fanfare and without needing credit.

Candace Wright
Candace Wright is the CEO of Blue Valley Technologies and Networks Plus, overseeing projects that expand internet access and strengthen cybersecurity support for rural communities. Since stepping into the CEO role in 2018, she has helped secure millions in grant funding to improve infrastructure and service for unserved and underserved areas. She also keeps saying yes to Marysville through steady volunteer leadership, serving on boards, taking on past president roles and showing up for community life, including her church and local fundraisers.

Pottamatomie EMS Reminder for the New Year

Many people don’t realize that EMS crews work a 48-hour on / 96-hour off schedule to ensure round-the-clock emergency coverage for our community. During those 48 hours, personnel remain at their stations, ready to respond immediately whenever help is needed — day or night.
While on duty, our crews truly make the stations a second home. They train, eat meals, rest when possible, and respond to emergencies together, all with one shared goal: being there for our community when it matters most.
This model of care wouldn’t be possible without the continued support, trust, and encouragement of the community we serve. Whether it’s a kind word, patience during an emergency response, or ongoing support for local EMS, it all makes a difference.
From all of us at EMS — thank you for standing behind your providers and allowing us to serve you.
