Roy Winkler and Pork Chops carried the mail 8 or 9 times over the course of the 20 some hours we were gone for the Pony Express Re-Ride. He was running hard yet at the end, which says he loves his job! The best stretch was between Summit and Seneca while it was still pretty cool. All the riders on that stretch had fresh horses and could ride hard and fast. They gained all of the 3 hours that they needed to get back on time before Seneca coming in at the scheduled 9:00 AM.
Hiawatha Public School's Team QUINN packed lunches last week for the No Kid Hungry summer program at the Brown County Sheriffs office! Thank you so much, ladies, for helping your community! What a great example you're setting!
The Seneca Pony Express Museum thanks our local 4-H group: Valerie Edelman, Sawyer Edelman, Emil Voracek and Ira Votacek, Addie and Ian Haverkamp with moving a historic buggy and setting up tables & chairs for breakfast the morning when the Pony Express Riders arrived on Main Street to exchange the mail! They appreciated the strong help!
The Horton Senior Center representatives had a fantastic morning at the Holton Blue Building participating in the South Brown County Community Foundation's 'Meet Our Nonprofits'. Met some awesome and passionate people from our community and learned about their nonprofit organizations. Many thanks to members, Mary Pat & Philip Jeffreys, Carolyn Huguenin, Marty Mercer, Mary Patterson, Jerry Holsman, and Larry and Laura Paulson for providing delicious, homemade cookies to share with those who stopped by our booth. Thank you to Marty Mercer for providing the table cloth that really tied it all together. Of course, we all extend our heartfelt thanks to the South Brown County Community Foundation for the opportunity to reach out to the community that we love. Horton, Kansas is a great place to live!
It was amazing at how fast our new roof went on at the Horton Public Library! Thank you to all who donated to us last year during the Grow South Brown Match days! Your donations made this possible. No more buckets between shelves during rain storms!

Pony Express Riders signed up to go wherever they were needed in 1860. The same is for our Seneca Doug Berkley & Annemiek Wortel as they help the west to get the mail to Seneca & St.Joseph. We can't wait to see these tired two on Saturday morning.
The Sabetha Chamber would like to thank the Greater Sabetha Community Foundation and the Patterson Family Foundation for the $2000 Grant. We will be using the money for new banners on Main Street.
Out and about as Game Wardens for Kansas Wildlife and Parks they occasionally get to see some really rare things. Pictured is an albino fawn . The chances of this happening in wild deer is estimated to be 1 in 30,000 to 1 in 1,000,0000.
Thank you to these HHS summer weights and conditioning guys. They gave their time for their school and their community to help clean out storage trailers at the elementary school. LOVE to see Red Hawks giving back!
Hiawatha High School Boys Weights and Conditioning Team came and helped serve lunch to the residents at Vintage Park!! Thanks for your service guys!
The Sabetha Chamber is very happy with stage one of their mural project. Whitney Kerr and The Arts Department did an incredible job. The postcard design is meant to teach and remind the community about the rich history of Sabetha. The mural will stand as a daily reminder of Sabetha’s values and pride in our town. It has taken us several years to save for this mural. We would like to Thank everyone that donated to our Mural Fund with the Greater Sabetha Community Foundation and everyone that participated in our Howl at the Moon Events and golfed in our Golf Tournaments!
