Homer Pederson passed away October 27, 2025 in Topeka after 97 years of committed servitude to faith, family, community and country. Homer was born on the same parallel where he went to school, farmed, and raised his family, all within 5 miles.

Homer was born the youngest son of Gustav and Caroline Pederson on September 23, 1928, at their home in rural Huron. He was sent to school at age four when his mother deemed, he had too much energy to wait another year. He fondly told stories of walking to school along the railroad tracks to the one-room Monterey School with a north window to provide light. He loved playing for his school basketball team alongside his brother Charles, and graduated from Huron High School in 1945, the only male in a class of five.

He was active in 4-H and showed his Angus steers at the Tri-County Fair, St. Joseph and the American Royal in Kansas City. He treasured joining up with other local young men to play town team basketball in numerous YMCAs and city gymnasiums. He was a very intentional listener and a corresponder. His friends and relatives were blessed with his stories and Homer was famous for sending birthday cards each year to many. He loved reading the Horton and Cole Camp newspapers to keep up with all things from sports to news. His welcoming nature could elicit a warm conversation from someone he knew for decades or only moments. Every place Homer went he would bump into someone he knew and if he didn't know them, he could find a commonality and familiar name sake or person, whom both knew. He seemed to live the phrase, "You are only one person away from knowing everyone."

Homer grew up on the family farm with horse teams and saw those replaced with tractors. He never apologized for not wanting to own any more horses. Homer stayed home with Gustav to work side by side until Gus's passing, on the family farm.

Homer enlisted in the National Guard as a PVI in 1948. He was promoted fast to the rank of SGT and eventually took his commission in 1951 C Charlie Battery 154 Field Artillery. In 1956 he married Juanita Bahrenburg from Cole Camp, Missouri. Juanita had come to Northeast Kansas as a single teacher and she and Homer began a 56-year union that produced a family of five children at their rural Everest farm. As a Staff Officer CPT S2, he answered the call order to Active Duty with the 69th Bde deployment 13 May 1968.

Juanita and the kids joined Homer at Fort Carson in the fall of 1968 where the children attended school before he received his individual orders to South Vietnam in 1969. He was promoted to Field Grade Major and S3 of 8-inch 5-22 Field Artillery. Major Pederson retired from the Guard 23 Apr 1970 and returned to full time farming once again. Homer served one more tour as full time training NCO at SVC Btry, 2-130 FA Troy Kansas from 1983 - 1988. In addition to serving the State and the Country, Homer never ran out of opportunities to work and volunteer his talents. He farmed for decades while Juanita was either teaching or home with the children. His love of farming, the weather, and any topics farm-related connected him to his neighbors and the Northeast Kansas area like a bumper crop shelled into the bin. Homer was an insurance crop adjuster, school bus driver, church maintenance man, and all-around volunteer wherever needed.

Homer was never afforded the time or opportunity to attend his favorite school, Kansas State University, but he followed the Wildcats closely from the final runs of the 1950's to the most recent years of Wildcat Championships in football and basketball. The Pedersons were KSU football ticket holders for over 20 years where family and friends would gather for reunions on autumn Saturdays. Proving Homer's love of K-State and commitment to education, the Pederson immediate families from Juanita to grandchildren hold ten bachelor's degrees and four master's degrees from KSU.

In addition to service to State and Country, Homer never ran out of opportunities to extend his servitude and gifts. He served for many years as a club leader for the Everest 4-Leaf Clover 4-H Club. Homer was active in the Everest Lions Club, American Legion Post 415, a Church Council Leader, and sang in the choir at Zion Lutheran Church.

Homer is survived by Juanelle (Mike) Garretson, of Salina, Kirk (Deneen) Pederson of Tonganoxie, Rick (Susan) Pederson of Aubrey, Tx, Rich Menear, Carlita Pederson's widower, of Topeka, Paul (Jennifer) Pederson of Bentonville, AR. Grandchildren: Shannon (Jay) Abrams, Matt Garretson, Taylor (Nick) Hartzell, Camden Garretson, Brooks Garretson; Adam (Leah) Muldoon, Justin (Courtney) Muldoon, Sean (Karlie Haskins) Muldoon, Patrick (Cydney)Muldoon; Jacob (Christina Beat) Pederson, Jessica (Reymond Rumbaut) Pederson, Mary (Jordan) Stein, Joshua Pederson, and Rachel Pederson; thirteen greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Homer was preceded in death by his wife Juanita in 2012 and his daughter Carlita Pederson in 2023 and siblings Charles Pederson and Ruth Irene Torkleson. After the passing of Juanita, Homer lived on the farm until 2021. The family is truly grateful to the multitudes of people who checked in on Homer, mailed cards, and made countless phone calls to soothe Homer's need to stay connected with his community.

The family will receive visitors on Friday evening, November 7 from 4 pm to 6:00 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church in Everest, Kansas. The funeral service will be at Zion Lutheran Church, 1521 Prairie Road, Everest on Saturday, November 8 at 10:30 with military honors burial immediately following the service.

Irene F. Becker (93) of rural Robinson, passed away October 30, 2025.

She was born at Effingham, Kansas, June 22, 1932, one of four children born to Ernest and Margaret Burg Falk.

Irene graduated from Effingham High School. She was a lifelong homemaker and a dedicated quilt maker. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and was active in her Church life, St. Anns Catholic Church of Hiawatha.

She married Emmett Becker on January 19, 1954. He preceded her in death November 2005.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Laurence, Mary and Marjorie and her husband.

She is survived by her children Judy Jacobs, Charles, Ralph and Ernest Becker, Connie Ingwerson, and Tracy Vonderschmidt. She leaves behind five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, at St. Anns Catholic Church in Hiawatha, with Father Michael Kantanka as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Leona.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Monday until 4 p.m.

Jessie Lou (Adams) Couchman, 90, passed away Oct 24, 2025 at St. Lukes Hospital. She was born May 25, 1935 in Altamont, MO to Charles W. and Nannie Bryant (Taul) Adams. Jessie married Marshall Couchman in 1952. She had seven daughters and enjoyed working in the school cafeteria. Her faith/church was an important part of her life. She enjoyed traveling but said no place was better than home. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie; husband, Marshall; parents; siblings, Marvin, Harold, John, Freda, Herman, Lucille, and Charles Edward; and many close friends.

Larry D. Baxter, 79, of Holton, KS, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, with family by his side. He was born May 5, 1946 in Plainville, KS the son of Jack Duane and Ileta Faye (McCune) Baxter.

Larry attended Stockton High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 - 1974; serving 3 tours in Vietnam and earning rank of Staff Seargent.

He worked for B&B in Holton, Pottawatomie County Road and Bridge and Raney Exterminator ein Marysville. Larry along side his friend, Lyle Gibson, owned and operated L & L Exterminators out of Onaga for many years.

He was a member of Circleville Christian Church, Holton V.F.W. Post 1367, Onaga V.F.W., and Topeka Shriners. He was honored to attend 2 Jackson County Honor Flights.

Larry married Norma Lee Steele on December 21, 1968 in Corning, KS; they celebrated over 56 years together.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of the home; 2 daughters, Sheila Voorhees (Archie) of Luverne, MN and Audrey Baxter of Holton, KS; sister, Karol Rice (Dan) of Topeka, KS; brother, Garry Baxter (Lorrie) of Beloit, KS; sister-in-law, Janeil Baxter of Andover, KS; 7 grandchildren, Justin, Alex, Kaylee, Jack, Josie, Creighton and Cooper and 5 great-grandchildren with one on the way, a great-grandson.

Lynn Dale Schoening, 82 of Sabetha, KS was called home to be with Jesus on October 28, 2025. Lynn was born August 28, 1943 in Council Bluffs, IA to Woodrow and Loretta Schoening (Franke). He was the second born of three brothers that grew up on a farm outside Minneola, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Marlen and younger brother Wayne.

Lynn graduated from Glennwood High School in 1961. After graduation he worked in packing houses before beginning his life long career of an OTR truck driver. Lynn owned his own truck and hauled cattle for years. His CB handle "Big German" would become the name everyone knew him by. Lynn became somewhat legendary among his fellow Bullhaulers and there are countless stories from the road that all of his friends love to share. Lynn later worked for Koch Truck Line in Sabetha before taking a job with Frito Lay in Topeka from where he would retire.

Lynn was an avid hunter and proud lifelong member of the NRA. After retirement, Lynn loved to work around his small ranch with his wife Diane, caring for their horses and cattle. In his spare time he enjoyed reloading ammunition and watching old westerns on TV. Lynn never knew a stranger and was known for his amazing sense of humor and willingness to always lend a hand.

Lynn had a strong faith and knew he would be welcomed in his eternal home. Lynn will be greatly missed by his wife Diane of Sabetha, KS, and by his children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as countless friends all over the country.

Graveside services for Lynn were held at the Albany Cemetery, north of Sabetha.

Shirley A. Merz, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by her family. Her warmth, kindness, and quick wit filled every room she entered, and her cheerful chatter could turn strangers into friends in a matter of minutes.

Born in Bethel, Kansas, on September 27, 1943, Shirley was the fourth of five children born to Walter and Aubrey Mae McCord. Growing up, she loved being surrounded by her siblings and friends — and was rarely found without a story to tell or a laugh to share.

Shirley's caring heart led her to a lifetime of helping others. She began volunteering at her local hospital right out of high school, a role that sparked her lifelong love of connecting with people. After marrying, she made her home in Horton, Kansas, where she worked as City Clerk, as a cook at the Manor Retirement Home, and later in the lunchroom at Horton High School for the South Brown County School District. Whether she was serving up lunch, handling paperwork, or just passing through town, she never missed the chance to greet someone by name, ask about their family, or share a bit of good-natured gossip.

Learning to live without her are her sister, Betty (and the late Jack) Rehm; brother, Charles (Barbara) McCord; and son, James (Colleen) Stuart. Missing her love and laughter are her grandchildren: James (Jess) Stuart, Geoffrey (Megan) Irwin, Connor Irwin, Lyvia (Houston) Allen, Jacob Stuart, and Rebekah Stuart; and her great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Jolene, and Julia Stuart. Many nieces, nephews, and friends will continue to carry her memory and her gift for conversation forward.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Walter H. and Aubrey Mae McCord; brother, Larry McCord; sister, Donna Pfannenstiel; husband, Charles (Chuck) Merz; and beloved great-granddaughter, Josie Stuart.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Ks. at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, with burial to follow at the Horton Cemetery. Bill Morehead, 67, of Barada, NE, passed away October 28, 2025 at Falls City, NE. He was born August 29, 1958 to Marion and Helen (Reschke) Morehead.

Bill was raised on a farm near Rulo, NE and graduated from Falls City High School in 1976. Following graduated he farm with his father and for Raphel Majerus and then later worked for Rich Niedfeldt, retiring in 2021. He rode bulls and did team roping for many years and loved his dogs. He especially enjoyed being a great dad and grandpa. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Bill is survived by a daughter, Josie Morehead of Verdon, NE, mother, Helen Morehead of Falls City, brother, Bob and his wife Deb of Rulo, sister, Barb Vice of Falls City, grandson, Jona William, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

Marlin Glenn "Marti" Peck Jr., 62, of Rulo, Nebraska, passed away on October 26, 2025, in Rulo, Nebraska. He was born on July 4, 1963, in Falls City, Nebraska to Marlin G. and Lois (Kirkendall) Peck. Marti's life was as full of independence and spirit as his Fourth of July birthday — a day that was joyfully celebrated by all who knew him.

Marti spent nearly 30 years living in Rulo, a place he much preferred over city life. He attended Milford College, where he studied auto mechanics. He later went on to work for Mickelberry's and Airlanco, where his expertise and work ethic were admired by many. In 1984, Marti united in marriage to Deeanna Sells Peck. Marti had a lifelong love for the simple joys of nature — hunting for mushrooms in the spring, harvesting pawpaws in the fall, and collecting Native American relics. He will be remembered for the close bonds he shared with his best friend, Ron, and with his sister Patrice and her husband Sean, whose love and support enriched his life. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends who loved him dearly.

Marti is survived by his children: Nicole (Jay) Jackson, Jeremy (Hayley) Peck, and Mariah Peck (Austin Ramsey), four grandchildren: Seth Jackson, Garrett Jackson, Layke Peck, Lottie Peck, sisters: Patrice (Sean) Fitzpatrick, Anita Jaros (Randy Rowell), and Lisa (Doug) Young, and many friends and other family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Lois (Kirkendall) Peck.

Barbara Ann (Keller) Prater, 73, of Rulo, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at her home in Rulo. She was born on August 19, 1952, in Falls City, Nebraska to Charles A. and Cora Belle (Ogden) Keller. Barbara was raised in Falls City and received all her schooling there. On February 13, 1970, Barbara was united in marriage to James "Jim" Prater in Falls City, Nebraska. To this union three children, Coreena, Melissa, and Jace were born.

Barbara worked for the Iowa Tribe Bingo for many years as a meal site and receptionist and worked at Frosty Queen. Barbara loved her family and friends dearly. She loved to shop in St. Joseph, Missouri and later in life, she enjoyed playing card and dice games with her family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her loving of 55 years Jim Prater of Rulo, children: Coreena Adkins and her friend Toby Teel of Hiawatha, KS; Melissa Coonce and husband James of Rulo, NE; Jace Prater and friend Bobbie Popejoy of White Cloud, KS; grandchildren: Cody Guthals of Falls City, Kraig Coonce of Rulo, Jami Coonce of Rulo, Jesse Coonce of Rulo, Peyton Prater of White Cloud, KS; Wrenley Prater of White Cloud, KS; great-grandchildren: Watson Guthals of Falls City, Iris Coonce of Rulo, Jude Purcell of Falls City, and Larissa Coonce of Rulo, her sister Marcia Simmonds and husband Donnie of Falls City, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Betty Ann Downing, 97. Atchison, Kansas died Wednesday October 22, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Homegoing services will be Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from Noon until time of services at the church.

Betty was born September 2, 1928, in St. Joseph, Missouri the daughter of Thomas and Leona Hannah Clayton Moore. Betty attended school at Atchison High School.

She and Jesse V. Downing were united in marriage on August 12, 2001, in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Downing preceded her in death on September 11, 2001.

Betty served in childcare at the Atchison Child Care for over twenty-three years until her retirement.

A woman of extended faith and loyalty she was a lifelong member of the Campbell Chapel A. M. E. Church where she served as a stewardess. Betty also participated as a member of the Atchison Juneteenth start up and served on the committee.

Survivors include two sons, Maurice Jackson, Sacramento, CA; Dwayne Jackson, Topeka, KS; four daughters, Jerry Finney, Atchison, KS; Linda Thomas, Louisville, KY; Corrine Jackson, Des Moines, IA and Theresa May, Atchison, KS; she has over one hundred grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by children, Oliver Jackson, Jr.; Clarence Jackson; Bernedette Jackson; Linda S. Dudley; Jesse W. Downing; and grandchildren, Mari Taylor; Jessica Poole and LaMar "Simba" McCants.

Scott Wayne Dryden, age 59, of Atchison, KS, passed unexpectedly on October 26, 2025.

Services to remember and celebrate Scott's life will be on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Lucas officiating. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 am prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Cummings Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Atchison Humane Society in care of the funeral home. Scott was born on September 1, 1966, in Atchison, KS, the son of James Scott Dryden and Brenda (Bomberger) Dryden. He is a graduate of Atchison County Community High School. He and Anna Marshall dated for over twelve years and were married in May of 2004 and have enjoyed spending over thirty years together.

Scott began his employment at the Atchison Achievement services and also performed numerous odd jobs that needed done while working there. He worked as an assembler at Fargo for a few years and then in the Janitorial Department at Amberwell Atchison until his health recently forced him into retirement.

He was a collector of many things including antiques and pottery. He enjoyed cooking, spending his free time fishing and spoiling his dogs. Scott was able to make a couple trips to the beach in Florida and that became one of his favorite attractions. Scott's favorite holiday was Halloween, and he celebrated most every year by helping the Northeast Kansas Railroaders as the "Pumpkin Head" with their annual Halloween train ride.

He is survived by his wife Anna Dryden; his mother, Brenda Dryden; a sister, Sheli Cook; a brother Darrin (Jennifer) Dryden; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, and a great nephew, Kipton Scott Bowen.

Theresa Viola Rasdall, 88, formerly of Lancaster, KS died on Friday, Oct. 24th, 2025, at the Atchison Senior Village.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 28th, 2025, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Don Payne officiating. Theresa was born on May 12, 1937, in Plattsburgh, NY the daughter of William Joseph and Agnes Josephine (King) Giguere.  She attended school in Plattsburgh, NY. She was married to Donald Eugene Rasdall on April 29th, 1959, at the Plattsburgh Airforce Chapel. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28th, 1998.  Theresa was a self-employed childcare provider from her home.  She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Atchison, and the VFW Auxiliary. She attended the Senior Citizens Project Concern, enjoyed playing bingo, plastic canvas crafts, and going to the casino.

She is survived by three sons; Donald C. Rasdall, Atchison, KS, John Paul Rasdall, Easton, KS, and Brian Keith (Jeannette) Rasdall, St. Joseph, MO, two daughters; Terri Lynn (Robert) Harden, Lancaster, KS, Debra Kay (Richard) Burrows, Ottumwa, IA, Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.  Her parents, husband, Don Rasdall, daughter Cheryl Spellmeier, and four brothers; Loren, Desmond, Richard and Gerald Giguere preceded her in death.  

Marguerite Wenger, 94, of Hiawatha, died peacefully in the early morning hours of October 25, 2025, at Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Lola Marguerite Smith in Humboldt, NE October 10, 1931, she was one of six children born to the late Roy and Lola Smith. She grew up in rural Humboldt and Sabetha, KS.

Marguerite married Henry Hiskey in 1951, and they were blessed with five children: Roger, Brenda, Sindy, Kevin, and Jeanne. They initially lived in Sabetha, KS but moved to Hiawatha in 1956 where she remained the rest of her life. Henry passed in 1984.

She met and later married Frank Wenger in 1993. They made their home in Hiawatha. Frank passed in 1999.

Survivors include two sons: Roger Hiskey (Jeri) of Des Moines, IA, and Kevin Hiskey (Judy) of Olathe, KS; three daughters: Brenda Bosse (Leonard) of Canon City, CO; Sindy Landreth (Jerry) of Virden, IL, and Jeanne Holloway of Hiawatha, KS; along with 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Lee and Max Smith; her sisters Evelyn Roland, Vivian Beeghly, and Sue Snyder; her husband Henry Hiskey; and her second husband Frank Wenger.

Jenny Honea, 70, of Falls City, NE, passed away October 25, 2025 at Atchison, KS. She was born March 22, 1955 at Houston, TX to Clarence and Mabel (Woods) Moore.

She married Walter Honea on June 6, 1970 at Falls City. He passed away March 9, 2014.

Jenny was raised in the Houston, Grand Prairie and Dallas, TX areas. The couple moved to Falls City in 1972 after Walter's military discharge. She worked as a waitress and CNA for many years. She also did cake decorating in her home. She retired in 1986 due to her health. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, fishing and bingo.

Jenny is survived by her children, Brenda Gilsdorf and her husband Randy of Falls City, Dawn Honea-Pearce of Falls City, Walter, Jr. and his wife Amanda of Branson, MO, mother, Mabel Painter of Florida, brothers, Terry and Chris Moore, Shane Miller all of Florida, sister, Cindy Anderson and her husband John of Florida, sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, husband and a sister, Shannon Miller.

Mrs. Honea has been cremated and a graveside service will be held in the spring.

Theresa Viola Rasdall, 88, formerly of Lancaster, KS died on Friday, Oct. 24th, 2025, at the Atchison Senior Village.

Theresa was born on May 12, 1937, in Plattsburgh, NY the daughter of William Joseph and Agnes Josephine (King) Giguere. She attended school in Plattsburgh, NY. She was married to Donald Eugene Rasdall on April 29th, 1959, at the Plattsburgh Airforce Chapel. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28th, 1998. Theresa was a self-employed childcare provider from her home. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Atchison, and the VFW Auxiliary. She attended the Senior Citizens Project Concern, enjoyed playing bingo, plastic canvas crafts, and going to the casino.

She is survived by three sons; Donald C. Rasdall, Atchison, KS, John Paul Rasdall, Easton, KS, and Brian Keith (Jeannette) Rasdall, St. Joseph, MO, two daughters; Terri Lynn (Robert) Harden, Lancaster, KS, Debra Kay (Richard) Burrows, Ottumwa, IA, Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, Don Rasdall, daughter Cheryl Spellmeier, and four brothers; Loren, Desmond, Richard and Gerald Giguere preceded her in death.

Terry Lee Hopper, 65, of San Francisco, California, unexpectedly passed away while at home during the evening hours of September 8, 2025, from cardiac arrest. Terry was born on January 18, 1960 at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital to Dan and Barbara (Vrtiska) Hopper. In April of 1960, Terry was baptized in the United Methodist Church in Pawnee City.

Terry and his family lived in Pawnee City until he was 8 years old after which the family moved to a farmstead north of Pawnee City. He attended Pawnee City Public Schools from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. While in grade school, Terry started taking piano and singing lessons which was advantageous for him when he entered high school. He also learned how to play the organ and played the organ at the Methodist Church for their Sunday morning services.

While in high school, Terry participated in band, pep band, chorus and helped establish the school's first swing choir. He received many awards for his solo performances. In 1976, Terry sang an Al Jolson song for the July 4th Bicentennial Celebration at the Pawnee County Fairgrounds. He also was cast and performed in three musicals, and also participated in speech and drama. In his junior year, Terry competed in Oral Interpretation of Drama and won first in state at the Nebraska State Speech Contest in Kearney, NE. During his senior year, Terry again competed in Oral Interpretation of Drama and again won first in state. During that same contest, he also competed in Oral Interpretation of Prose and placed third in state.

Terry graduated from high school in 1978 and enrolled at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, majoring in Acting. After two years at Wesleyan, Terry left Wesleyan and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. At UNL, Terry majored in Fine Arts. After approximately a year, Terry decided to leave the university and start a greeting card business. His business, which he named Avant Card, was located in downtown Lincoln. After approximately two years in business, Terry was asked by a local Lincoln businessman if he wanted to sell the business, Terry agreed to the sale and the business was sold.

Terry then made a decision to leave Lincoln and move to San Francisco. Terry found a job with a charitable organization to assist them with their fundraising. Later Terry became employed with St. Vincent DePaul of San Francisco as their person in charge of donations and organizing fundraising events. He retired from St. Vincent DePaul in February of 2025.

Terry is survived by his parents Dan and Barbara Hopper of Pawnee City, NE, brother, Jerry Hopper of Lincoln, NE, aunts, Jo E. Vrtiska of Oblong, IL, Janet Vrtiska, Lincoln, NE, Marilyn Spohr, Weeping Water, NE and Jean Buell of Randolph, NE, uncle Charles Spohr of Weeping Water, NE, great-aunt Vernice Vrtiska of Harlan, IA and numerous cousins.

Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Marjorie Vrtiska, Raymond and Pearl Hopper and great-uncle Vernon Vrtiska.

Wilma (Atkinson) Binder, 98, of Lincoln, was born July 3, 1927, in Pawnee City, NE, to Max and Amy (Neiswanger) Atkinson. She passed away Friday, October 24, 2025 with her family by her side. She graduated from Pawnee City High School and attended the University of Nebraska, graduating as a Phi Beta Kappa member. After marrying Leland Binder, they lived on the farm near Table Rock. She trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Pawnee City. A few years after the death of her husband, she moved to Lincoln.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leland, parents; son, Timothy; infant daughter, Louise; brothers Dan (Elsie), Gaylord (Erma), sister, Vivian Lackey; infant brother, David; brothers-in-law Charles (Beth), Glenn (Bernice, Laura), Joseph (Flo) and Willard (Minnie) Binder.

Joseph Alan "Joe" Korber, 19, of Bern, Kansas, passed away on October 19, 2025. He was born on August 18, 2006, in Sabetha, Kansas, the beloved son of John and Susan (Williams) Korber.

Joe graduated from Nemaha Central High School in 2024. At the time of his passing, he was attending Southeast Community College in Beatrice, pursuing a degree in Precision Agriculture. Joe was excited about his future and passionate about learning new ways to combine technology and farming. He was well loved by his classmates and instructors who appreciated his kindness, humor, and willingness to lend a hand.

He enjoyed helping his dad and uncle on the farm - especially building fence and working through harvest. Joe had just finished this year's harvest the day before his passing, a reflection of his dedication, hard work, and love for the land.

Joe loved spending time with family and friends; he was always up for a laugh, a good conversation, or a late night gaming session. He loved going to concerts and sharing music with his dad and sister and took every opportunity to share a good meme. Those who didn't know him well might have thought he was shy, but those close to him know his quirky sense of humor and quick wit. His kind heart, easy-going spirit and laughter touched everyone who knew him.

Joseph is survived by his parents, John and Susan Korber of Bern, KS; his sister, Kimberly Korber and her partner Daniel Blackman, of Topeka, KS; his grandparents, David Korber of Bern, KS and Karl and Sally Williams of Beloit, KS; his uncles and aunts, Dean (Marsha) Korber of Bern, KS, Brett Williams of Beloit, KS, and Sheila (James) Huls of Bern, KS; as well as many cousins, great-aunts, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Connie was born on April 3, 1957, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Harold Wilcox and Katharine (Potter) Rice. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1975. She married Ronald Jamvold on July 1, 1989. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing, camping and anything outdoors.

William Hanna "Bill" McCauley, Jr., 76, of Holton, KS, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS, with family by his side. He was born September 30, 1949 in Mayetta, KS, the son of William Hanna McCauley, Sr. and Betty Jane (Sinda) McCauley.

Bill graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1966 at Norridge, IL. He lived in Chicago, IL from 1963 - 1988 and Aurora and Golden CO for 18 years, before moving back to Mayetta.

He was a sales manager for the beverage industry for over 25 years, worked for Titan Industries for 10 years and most currently worked at Western Hydro for Mike Yeager with the Wichita office. He also sold cars, worked for Cecil K's and Heartland Meat Market.

Bill married Sue Lynn Schwolow on January 30, 1977 in Las Vegas, NV. They celebrated over 48 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Sue of Holton; son, Kevin P. McCauley (Ivonne) of Vernon Hills, IL; daughter, Bridget E. Marchese (Michael) of Westminster, CO; 2 sisters, Kathleen Lundgren of Plainfield, IL and JoAnn Donnelly (Lou) of Littleton, CO; aunts Phyllis Lauer (Donald) of Libertyville, IL and Sharon Lewan (Larry) of Oshkosh, WI. Last but not least he and Sue's dog, Fluffy.

Joyce Wilma (Davison) Moerer, 87, of Humboldt, Nebraska passed away Monday, October 20th, 2025.

Joyce was born on April 15,1938, in rural Stella, Nebraska, to Floyd and Freda (Hall) Davison. She attended country school and graduated from Stella High School with the class of 1956. Following high school, she took classes at Peru State College. On March 3,1957, Joyce was united in marriage to Vanes Moerer at the E. U. B. church in Howe, Nebraska. This union was blessed with four children: Carol, Paula, Neal, and Mark.

The couple lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, while Vanes served at Fort Sill. After his military service was complete, Vanes and Joyce moved to Humboldt in the fall of 1959. Joyce was a dedicated and loving mother. She faithfully served Sunday dinner to her family for years, giving them many special memories. She was a devoted member of the Faith Lutheran Church where she played organ, taught children in the Midweek ministry, and participated in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Joyce thoroughly enjoyed giving piano lessons to generations of budding musicians through the decades. She and Vanes loved to travel and were able to visit 49 states and several countries before his death in 2017. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage. Joyce moved to Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt in 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws John and Marie Moerer, sister Leone Kahle, brothers-in-law Alvin Kahle and Wayne Moerer, sister-in-law Willy Moerer, daughter Paula Moerer, infant son Neal Moerer, and great-granddaughter Ren Avery.

Charles (Chuck) Reynolds of Falls City, born to Diana Coffman (Goetsch) and Charles David Walz, died Monday October 20, 2025.

Chuck was married to his surviving wife Kandi (Gibson) Reynolds of Falls City NE on August 4th, 2001 at a ceremony in Rulo NE on the banks of the Missouri River.

Chuck was a father of two surviving sons Charlie Goodman and Austin Stroh both of Lincoln. He is also survived by his mother Diana Coffman ( Nathan) of Horton KS; two sisters, Julie Ann Camblin of Kansas and Sarah Jean Cormier of Wetmore KS; Brothers, Scott Reynolds ( Jean), of Sabetha and Chad Reynolds ( Diane), of Horton; Cousin, Holly Lang; his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his dog Daisy.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles David Walz, father in law Robert Gibson, brother in law Jeff Gibson, nephew Billy Gibson and aunt Kim Kerr. Chuck was an outdoors type who loved to fish and camp. His back porch was the social center for him and his friends and family that stopped by.

There will be a celebration of life service at Stanton Lake cabin on Monday October 27, 2025 at 4 pm. All of his friends and family are welcomed to attend.

Henry Jake Rohlmeier, Jr. (Junior), 77, of Bern, KS passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Life Care Center of Seneca. He was born on April 5, 1948 on the family farm located northeast of Dubois, NE, the son of Henry and Esther (Kroemer) Rohlmeier. Henry attended school in Dubois until he was 10 years old and then they moved to the family farm located west of Bern, KS where he attended Bern School until he graduated high school.

Henry was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Hartung on January 5, 1973 at Frieden's Church of Christ in Bern, KS. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death. To this union, one son and two daughters were born.
They made their home in Bern, KS and Henry farmed where he grew up on the family farm. Henry worked on the family farm and assisted neighbors on their farms. He retired from farming in 2013.

Henry enjoyed piddling around the farm and driving grandchildren around the farm on his tractor. Henry enjoyed driving his 1945 "B" John Deere tractor in the Humboldt Fair parade until 2019. He enjoyed attending tractor pulls, hunting, and occasionally fishing with his son, Brad. He enjoyed cruising country roads with his daughters, Dawn and Debra.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Eugene, Howard, Lyle Rohlmeier and sister, Henrietta Rohlmeier.

Henry is survived by his wife, Darlene of the home; one son, Brad (Jennifer) Rohlmeier of Seneca, two daughters: Dawn Rohlmeier of Merriam, KS and Debra (Brandon) Schober of Vermillion, KS; 8 grandchildren, Colby (Amelia Shuler) Boehm, Emma (Austin) Sullivan, Ashly (Caleb) Durland, Tyler Boehm, Hanna Schober, Hunter Schober, Jeremy Rohlmeier and Isabella Rohlmeier; and three great-grandchildren.

Lucille Theresa Noll, of Winchester, Kan., passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, at F.W. Huston Senior Living in Winchester, at the age of 95.

Visitation beginning with praying of the rosary will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.

Byron George Moritz, also known as Barney, passed away peacefully in his home on September 14th, 2025, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born on March 16th, 1960, at Tushla Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska to Paul Wayne and Helen (McConnell) Moritz. He was raised on a farm northeast of Humboldt, Nebraska and was the middle child of three.

Growing up, Byron and his brother Dennis worked for several area farmers doing various haying, corn shelling, working with livestock and row crop jobs as well as other various work associated with agriculture. This was all familiar work as he helped on the family farm, working in the fields and raising hogs and cattle.

Byron and his siblings, Dennis and Kellie, spent their summers together shooting off Black Cat Firecrackers at Fourth of July, playing basketball, soccer and base soccer in the farmyard, playing in the dirt with farm toys and G.I. Joe's. Roasting marshmallows and hot dogs were a favorite pastime at the outside brick fireplace as was fishing at the farm pond where Byron was noted to have luck catching snapping turtles with his cane pole. Attending the local fairs and rodeos was a highlight as well.

Emergency doctor visits were part of the family holidays as Byron and Kellie decided to jump on the spring day bed was a lot of fun until Byron went through and ran a spring in his knee Also, when he decided to jump the corn cob piles with this bicycle just like Evil Knievel. When he wasn't running around with his siblings, Byron was getting into mischief with his best friend and future brother-in-law, Steve.

Byron graduated with the class of 1978 at Southeast Consolidated Schools in Stella, Nebraska. He was President of his Senior Class, lettered in Swing Choir, attended Cornhusker Boys State, elected as President and Sentinel of his FFA Chapter. Byron represented his FFA Chapter at the National Land Judging Contest in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Southeast Community College in Milford Nebraska with a degree in Parts Management. Byron returned to Southeast Nebraska a few years later and worked for Store Kraft in Beatrice and then SurGro, a local fertilizer business in Stella, Nebraska.

He established himself with Heubel Material Handling and for almost 40 years was their Parts Manager and Sales Representative at their St. Louis branch. During his time with Heubel, Byron met his wife Sally and naturally taught his daughter how to jump into big boxes of packing peanuts, count inventory, and drive a forklift. He loved his job and didn't think of those around him as coworkers and clients, they were friends.

Byron and his wife Sally enjoyed spending weekends at their lake house in Fredericktown, Missouri. During their time there, Byron enjoyed fishing and antiquing with Sally. Nothing made him happier than relaxing with his loved ones on the porch with a cold beverage unwinding from the week. They also enjoyed found unique places to visit. Some of their favorites were the beaches in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Dealey Plaza and the Alamo in Texas, and Monument Valley and Tombstone in Arizona. Byron also earned a free trip to Hawaii for his 25-year anniversary with Heubel and they enjoyed exploring the many islands.

He was a devoted father that spent his weekends with Amber seeing movies, fishing, going to the mall and arcade, swimming, and of course watching sports. They liked to go to antique stores and garage sales to find new treasures. Byron was an avid collector. He liked to collect stamps, Hot Wheels, and anything Batman. Byron and his brother Dennis were lifetime members of the Batman and Robin club. When his grandson Talon was born, he continued his traditions over again with him. Grandpa Barney and Talon enjoyed time together taking walks, playing catch and ladder golf, and running around in the backyard playing with bubbles and catching wild turtles. Byron always enjoyed a good laugh and lived a wonderful life. He was always willing to help his family, friends and colleagues.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents Paul Wayne Moritz and Helen McConnell Moritz. He leaves behind his beloved wife Sally (nee Gerker) and adored daughter Amber (Seth). He was a cherished grandfather to Talon Brinkman and Noah, Owen, Aiden and Asher Stoddard. Loving brother of Dennis Moritz (Deb), and Kellie Kennedy (Steve). Cherished uncle of Dayton Kennedy (Jacquelyn), Maren DeJonge (Danny). He was a great-uncle to Elise, Halle, Scarlett, and Madilynn DeJonge and Daphne and Weston Kennedy and to many. He was a beloved cousin, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend.

Verda June Gharst, 84, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on October 18, 2025.

She was born March 23, 1941 in Holton, Kansas the daughter of Carl E. Bradley and Eleanor E. (Bohannon) Bradley.

She had a wonderful happy childhood spent on the family farm 1 ½ miles southwest of Holton. She attended Lower Banner School during grades 1-8 then, on to Holton High School and in later years some college. On May 31, 1959 she was married to David C. Kuglin. Three children were born to this family; Ann R. (Kuglin) Jones, Kay M. (Kuglin) Smith and Troy D. Kuglin. They later divorced.

She married Frank "Bud" Brosa, Jr, they later divorced.

October 26, 1993, she married Gary T. Gharst. They made their home near Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Eleanor Bradley; brother, James R. Bradley and sister, Helen Askren

Verda worked at St. Francis Hospital 7 years and retired from Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center after 25 ½ years of service.

She was introduced and baptized into the Christian faith early in her childhood at First Christian church, Holton, Kansas. Later, she was a 66-year member of Evangel United Methodist Church at Holton.

Verda was a former choir member and Sunday school teacher at Evangel United Methodist church in Holton. She and her family were very involved in 4-H work for many years. She was a member of the Lower Banner E.H.U, the Sunflower Club, the Moose Chapter 1091 in Topeka and enjoyed volunteering with the Holton Hospital Auxiliary.

Verda enjoyed bowling for many years, traveling, photography and loved all her family more than they can ever imagine.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann Jones (Rick), Council Bluffs, IA, Kay Smith (Jay), Wetmore, KS and a son, Troy Kuglin (Jenny), McLouth, KS; 1 sister, Ethel Ann King; 4 step-children, Julie Cereghino (Al), Olympia, WA, Randy Gharst, David Gharst (Tami) amd Lana Lucht , all of McPherson, KS.; 6 grandchildren, Danielle, Nathan, Jordan, Paul, Katie and Matthew; 2 step-grandchildren, Garry and Danielle; 8 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Cooper, Connor, Jaxson, Kyrah, Eliza, Hudson and baby boy Kuglin; and her dog Lilly.

Kevin James Fangman, 49, of Manhattan, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at his home in Manhattan.

He was born on May 13, 1976 in Seneca, Kansas, the third son of Eugene and Nancy (Hammes) Fangman. He graduated from B & B High School in 1994. He graduated from Manhattan Vo-Tech where he studied automotive technology.

Kevin worked as an auto mechanic for over 20 years at various businesses in Manhattan, Deby and Wichita. At the time of his death, he operated his own shop in Manhattan.

Kevin enjoyed anything and everything to do with racing and hot rods. He made many memories and lifelong friends over the years when he participated in Drag Week with his 1972 Chevy Nova.

Survivors include his father, Eugene Fangman of Seneca; brothers, Gary (DeeAnn) Fangman of Seneca, Brian (Denise) Fangman of Keats, and Randy Fangman of Topeka; step-father, Robert Uphaus of Topeka; and one niece, Nicole Fangman of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Uphaus, and grandparents, George and Aurelia Fangman and Leonard and Anna Hammes.

Cremation has already taken place. The family will be at the church at 9:00 A.M. with a rosary to start at 9:30 A.M at St. Mary's Church on Friday, October 24, 2025, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, St. Benedict, Kansas.

Clinton Rodde Johnson, age 98, went home to his Savior on October 4, 2025, at Crestview Nursing and Residential Living in Seneca, Kansas.

Clinton was born on July 18, 1927, in a farmhouse four miles north of Jamestown, Kansas, to John E. ("Abe") and Ida (Rodde) Johnson. He grew up farming alongside his parents and developed a lifelong appreciation of farming. He loved working with his father's draft horses, feeding, grooming, and caring for them whenever he could. Clinton attended elementary school in Kackley, Kansas, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1945, where he enjoyed both his studies and playing basketball.

In the fall of 1945, Clinton enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving at the tail end of World War II until his separation from service a year later. Upon returning home, he began his career with the Soil Conservation Service in Belleville, Kansas.

On June 20, 1948, Clinton married the love of his life, Emogene Konovalsky, at Ada Lutheran Church in Kackley, Kansas. Together, they raised two sons, Ronald and Kevin, and shared an incredible 77 years of marriage.
In February 1952, Clinton was called back into service with the Navy during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1954, he attended Kansas State University, where he earned a degree in civil engineering in 1957.

After graduation, Clinton returned to the Soil Conservation Service. His work took him and his family to Seneca, Kansas; Salina, Kansas; Bismarck, North Dakota; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Lincoln, Nebraska, where he served as Assistant State Conservationist in North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Nebraska before his retirement.

A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Clinton lived out his faith daily through kindness, humility, and service to others. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner, and an active member of the Kiwanis Club, where he could often be found helping at pancake feeds and community events. Clinton was also a devoted fan of the Kansas State Wildcats, cheering them on at every opportunity.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Kevin.

Clinton is survived by his wife, Emogene, of Seneca; his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Mavis Johnson of Seneca; his daughter-in-law, Kerry Johnson of Belleville; grandchildren Aleece and Darrell Hallowell of Basehor, Kelby and Kevin Couture and their daughter Addisyn Couture of Belleville, and Kale and Janessa Johnson and great-grandson, Kipton Johnson of Belleville.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Lauer Funeral Home, 212 South 4th Street, Seneca, Kansas.

Marceil Elizabeth Dressman, 85, of Seneca, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 16, 1940, the daughter of Cyril and Frances (Wessel) Stallbaumer. Marceil was born and raised on a family farm southwest of St. Benedict. The family moved in 1942 to her grandpa Henry Wessel farm south of St. Benedict. She grew up there and attended and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School, St. Benedict, Kansas in 1958. She worked as a secretary for the U.S. Soil Conservation Department in Seneca, Kansas.

Marceil married Clarence H. Dressman on April 30, 1960. Clarence preceded her in death on January 22, 1998. They lived and farmed southwest of Baileyville on the Dressman farm. Marceil and Clarence had three children Lora, Diane and Steven.

Marceil helped run the family farm with Clarence in Baileyville until 1972 when they purchased land in Red Cloud, Nebraska. There they operated a grain and livestock farm until 1989. Returning to Seneca in 1991, Marceil worked at Valentino's Pizza. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, reading, working on puzzles and making homemade pies for her family. Marceil was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, Kansas, and a member of the St. Ann's Altar Society.

Marceil is preceded in death by her husband Clarence, parents Cyril and Frances Stallbaumer, sister Carol Keegan, son-in-law Jim Ballard, and by an infant daughter, Helen on July 16, 1963.

She is survived by her children Lora Ballard of Omaha, Nebraska; Diane Bauer and husband Jason of Round Rock, Texas; Steven Dressman and wife Teresa of Superior, Nebraska.

Marceil was a loving grandma to five grandchildren: Adam BallaRd of Omaha, Nebraska; Zachary Dressman and wife Katie of Superior, Nebraska; Rachel Ballard and husband Thomas Springhower, Jr., of Omaha, Nebraska; Claire Hanneman and husband Brett of Gretna, Nebraska; Jared Dressman and wife Courtney of Charleston, West Virginia. 2 brothers, Charles Stallbaumer of Centralia, Kansas, and Dennis Stallbaumer of Seneca, Kansas, Three sisters, Janice Haverkamp of Seneca, Kansas, Sue Speilman of Seneca, Kansas, and Sr. Rose Marie Stallbaumer O.S.B. of Atchison, Kansas. She also has three great grandchildren: Samuel Ballard, Sebastian and Vivian Hanneman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M. on Friday, October 24 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, Kansas.

Jane Ann Smith, 74, of Hiawatha, died peacefully in the early morning hours of October 16, 2025 at Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Jane was born at Horton, November 6, 1950, one of four children born to the late Harry and Dena Rae Maxwell Elliott. She grew up at Falls City, Nebraska where she attended Falls City schools, where she later graduated high school.

Soon after graduation, she married Steven Werner and were blessed with three children: Todd, Michael, and Sara. Jane was dedicated to her young family by staying at home instead of working out. After they left the house, she enjoyed her work as a cook for local restaurants and in later years at nursing homes. She and Steven divorced.

She met and later married Ken Smith. They made their home at Whidbey Island in Washington State for a number of years until he passed away. Jane returned to this area and settled in Hiawatha to make her home.

Survivors include two sons: Todd Werner (Judy) of Munford, TN, Michael Werner of Hiawatha; a daughter, Sara Simmonds of Wisner, NE, three brothers: David Elliott of the Ozarks in Missouri, Ron Elliott of Omaha, NE, and Mark Elliott of Las Vegas, NV; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside inurnment service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson. Pastor Rich Lehmkuhl will officiate.

Immediately following service, family and friends are invited to Stanton Lake in Falls City, for a time of fellowship and lunch.

Byron George Moritz, also known as Barney, passed away peacefully in his home on September 14th, 2025, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born on March 16th, 1960, at Tushla Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska to Paul Wayne and Helen (McConnell) Moritz. He was raised on a farm northeast of Humboldt, Nebraska and was the middle child of three.

Growing up, Byron and his brother Dennis worked for several area farmers doing various haying, corn shelling, working with livestock and row crop jobs as well as other various work associated with agriculture. This was all familiar work as he helped on the family farm, working in the fields and raising hogs and cattle.

Byron and his siblings, Dennis and Kellie, spent their summers together shooting off Black Cat Firecrackers at Fourth of July, playing basketball, soccer and base soccer in the farmyard, playing in the dirt with farm toys and G.I. Joe's. Roasting marshmallows and hot dogs were a favorite pastime at the outside brick fireplace as was fishing at the farm pond where Byron was noted to have luck catching snapping turtles with his cane pole. Attending the local fairs and rodeos was a highlight as well.

Emergency doctor visits were part of the family holidays as Byron and Kellie decided to jump on the spring day bed was a lot of fun until Byron went through and ran a spring in his knee Also, when he decided to jump the corn cob piles with this bicycle just like Evil Knievel. When he wasn't running around with his siblings, Byron was getting into mischief with his best friend and future brother-in-law, Steve.

Byron graduated with the class of 1978 at Southeast Consolidated Schools in Stella, Nebraska. He was President of his Senior Class, lettered in Swing Choir, attended Cornhusker Boys State, elected as President and Sentinel of his FFA Chapter. Byron represented his FFA Chapter at the National Land Judging Contest in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Southeast Community College in Milford Nebraska with a degree in Parts Management. Byron returned to Southeast Nebraska a few years later and worked for Store Kraft in Beatrice and then SurGro, a local fertilizer business in Stella, Nebraska.

He established himself with Heubel Material Handling and for almost 40 years was their Parts Manager and Sales Representative at their St. Louis branch. During his time with Heubel, Byron met his wife Sally and naturally taught his daughter how to jump into big boxes of packing peanuts, count inventory, and drive a forklift. He loved his job and didn't think of those around him as coworkers and clients, they were friends.

Byron and his wife Sally enjoyed spending weekends at their lake house in Fredericktown, Missouri. During their time there, Byron enjoyed fishing and antiquing with Sally. Nothing made him happier than relaxing with his loved ones on the porch with a cold beverage unwinding from the week. They also enjoyed found unique places to visit. Some of their favorites were the beaches in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Dealey Plaza and the Alamo in Texas, and Monument Valley and Tombstone in Arizona. Byron also earned a free trip to Hawaii for his 25-year anniversary with Heubel and they enjoyed exploring the many islands.

He was a devoted father that spent his weekends with Amber seeing movies, fishing, going to the mall and arcade, swimming, and of course watching sports. They liked to go to antique stores and garage sales to find new treasures. Byron was an avid collector. He liked to collect stamps, Hot Wheels, and anything Batman. Byron and his brother Dennis were lifetime members of the Batman and Robin club. When his grandson Talon was born, he continued his traditions over again with him. Grandpa Barney and Talon enjoyed time together taking walks, playing catch and ladder golf, and running around in the backyard playing with bubbles and catching wild turtles. Byron always enjoyed a good laugh and lived a wonderful life. He was always willing to help his family, friends and colleagues.

Mildred "Millie" Evelyn Nusser, 95, of Holton, Kansas, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 14, 2025. She is now celebrating in Heaven with her husband, Harold, and daughters, Jan and Joyce, who preceded her in death. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and faithful servant who will be deeply missed.

Millie was born to Henry and Nora (Harsh) Wedel on July 15, 1930, in Moundridge, KS. She grew up in Syracuse, KS, with her five siblings, and it was there that she married the love of her life, Harold, on April 23, 1949. They began their journey together in Garden City, KS. Theirs was a remarkable love story grounded in enduring faith and commitment. Their 76-year marriage created a beautiful legacy for their family. Millie was a constant source of strength and support for her husband throughout their ministry. Her work often happened behind the scenes, yet her quiet strength and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Alongside her husband and other faithful followers of Christ, Millie was instrumental in starting Bible Christian Church in Garden City. In 1970, feeling called to full-time ministry, Harold and Millie moved to Oklahoma so Harold could attend Midwest Christian College. Millie worked in the kitchen at Oklahoma Christian College while Harold was a full-time student. Their ministry first took them to Jones, OK, then to Vici, OK.

In 1979, Harold and Millie joined the Cookson Hills Christian Ministry family, beginning 37 years of service. They started as house parents in Siloam Springs, AR, caring for unwed mothers. Over the years, they took on many roles, becoming "adopted grandparents" to many. They traveled to numerous churches representing Cookson Hills Ministries. In 2016, Harold and Millie moved back to Kansas to be closer to their daughter, Kathy. There, they became members of Circleville Christian Church.

Millie's greatest joy was her family. She was the mother of three daughters: Kathy Dyer (Bill) of Mayetta, KS; Janice Meyers (David); and Joyce Lambert (Brad), both now deceased. She was a proud grandmother of five: Brent Meyers (Brandy), Lori Self (Larry), Jamie Morphew (Kevin), Joel Dyer (Kari), and Kayla Hubbard (Tywon). She was blessed to be called "Granny" by 15 great-grandchildren—Zane (Lindsey), Aiden, Josh, Kale (Emily), Jenson, Isaac, Aidan, Jace, Bodie, Eli, Harrison, Ty, Raden, Jalen, and Hope—and she lived to meet her great-great-grandson, Fritz. Millie is also survived by her younger sister, Anne Ping (Gerald) of Lawrence, KS.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; two daughters, Joyce and Jan; two sisters, Ethel and Kathryn; and two brothers, Walter and Bob.

Millie had an ornery streak that not everyone knew about. She knew how to make others laugh and would often yodel just because she could. As a Granny, she must have read The Three Little Pigs a thousand times, and each time it was her own "unique" version of the story. She loved to clean house and was happiest at a sink full of dirty dishes. Family joked that St. Peter met her at the gates of Heaven with a dust rag waiting for her. Millie also enjoyed painting, scrapbooking, collecting dishes, and cooking for her family. But most of all, Millie had an unwavering faith in God that defined her life and consistently pointed others toward the love of Jesus.

Millie's life was one of grace, service, laughter, and love—a legacy that lives on in the many hearts she touched. Though we mourn her loss, we rejoice in knowing she is home at last, safe in the arms of her Savior.

A celebration of her life will be held at Circleville Christian Church, Circleville, KS, on November 1 at 10:30 a.m. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at the Cookson Hills Christian Ministry Cemetery in Kansas, Oklahoma.

William John "Bill" Thompson, 86, peacefully passed away at Amberwell Hiawatha on October 15, 2025. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, curiosity, and compassion.

Bill was born on February 24, 1939 in rural Woodlawn, Kansas, to Arthur "Bud" and Lois (McClain) Thompson. From an early age, he and his two brothers learned the importance of community and integrity. He attended a one-room Woodlawn school through 8th grade and then graduated from Sabetha High School in 1957. As a farm boy, he was active in 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA). In 1962, he married Julia Feek of Dawson, Nebraska; together, they built a family that included three children—Diana, David, and Steven.

Bill worked as a machinist for many years—first at Wilde Tool Company in Hiawatha and then at Wenger Manufacturing in Sabetha, where he retired in 2005. He also nurtured the simple but profound connection he had always had with the land by farming part-time in Brown and Nemaha Counties. Bill was a talented craftsman whose strong work ethic and attention to detail earned him the respect of all who knew him. His inquisitive nature and willingness to share his knowledge sparked a lifelong love of science and technology among his children and grandchildren.

Bill embodied the spirit of service and actively contributed to his community. From 1956 to 1964, he honorably served his country as a member of the Army National Guard. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hiawatha for more than 60 years, having served as both a trustee and member of the Session. He had also been a member of the Woodlawn Cemetery Board as well as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals in Hiawatha.
Those who knew and worked or served with Bill will remember him for his humility, kindness, and curiosity; his legacy will be carried on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Vaughn Thompson, and his brother and sister-in-law Darryl and Wilma Thompson.

He is survived by his wife Julia of Hiawatha; their daughter Diana (Mark) Dean of Newburg, Missouri; their sons David (Lisa) Thompson of Hiawatha and Steven (Tammy) Thompson of Platte City, Missouri; six grandchildren: Levi (Desiree) Thompson, Haley Thompson, Marshall Dean, Marina (Brandon) Steger, Ryker Travis, and Luke Thompson; five great-grandchildren: Paxton Thompson, Brekken Thompson, Josiah Dean, Mallory Steger, and Markus Steger; sister-in-law Marjorie Thompson of Auburn, Kansas; four nephews; two nieces; and several other extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 20, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hiawatha, with Pastor Cheryl Mishler officiating. Visitation will be held at the church at 10:00 am (one hour prior to the service). Burial will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery at 2:15 pm that afternoon.

James Martin "Jim" Gibbs passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on October 10, 2025 at The Pines of Hiawatha.

Jim, as he was known to family and friends, was born on June 15, 1941, Father's Day, at the Horton Hospital to Lewis and Mabel (Andrews) Gibbs and lived all his life in Brown County, Kansas. He was the eldest twin, being born five minutes earlier than his sister. Jim grew up on the family farm South of Hiawatha and there began his strong work ethic, always rising early to do chores and tending to livestock. He attended school at the Union country schoolhouse and graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1959. On November 3, 1963, he married Marylan Kleppe of Robinson and they welcomed three daughters, Debbie, Pam and Michelle.

Jim had a long career with the telephone company retiring in 2006 after 38 years of service and dedication. Still wanting to stay busy and active, he worked for Pederson Seed for five years. Jim was a dedicated and loving husband and father, always taking time to be with family. He was always available to lend a helping hand to family, friends, coworkers or anyone needing help. Jim loved being outdoors and had a passion for hard work. He had a fun sense of humor and was known for his quick and witty comments, always followed with a mischievous grin!

In addition to being a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hiawatha, he had also served on the Hiawatha Alumni Board, Brown County Historical Society Board, and Ag Museum Board. Jim was an avid bowler and played in the Tuesday night league at Maple Lanes for several years, even achieving a perfect score. He also enjoyed pheasant and quail hunting.
Jim will be remembered as a hardworking, generous and kind-hearted man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. His genuine approach to life and his strong work ethic leave behind lasting memories for all who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Marylan, of Hiawatha; their daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie (Jay) Dwerlkotte of Beattie, KS, Pam (LaVerne) Sanders of Hiawatha, and Michelle (Scott) VanDalsem of Goodyear, AZ; three grandchildren: Ryan (Channing) Sanders, Valerie Sanders, and Whitney Sanders; one great grandson: Callahan Sanders, a twin sister Janice (Gary) Schuetz of Topeka, KS, and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jim's eternal life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 16th at 11:00 a.m. presided over by Rev. Cheryl Mischler. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service with burial following at Mount Hope Cemetery. Judith "Judy" Clara Bodenhausen, 79, of Lancaster, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. She most recently resided at Homestead Assisted Living in Eudora, Kansas.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Oct. 21st, 2025, at the Camp Creek United Church with Rev. Seth Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Creek Cemetery. Judy was born on August 7, 1946, in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Beryl A. and Virginia F. (Walz) Hundley. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1964. She worked for a short time at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She married the love of her life, Dennis Bodenhausen, on March 27, 1966, at Camp Creek Church and together they built a beautiful life and home in Lancaster. Judy was a devoted homemaker and worked side by side with Dennis milking cows and helping with the family farm.

Judy's life was centered around faith, family, and community. She was a dedicated member of Camp Creek United Methodist Church in Cummings, Kansas, where she enjoyed fellowship and service as a Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer for the church, and serving on the Pastor Parish Committee. Known for her warmth and kindness, Judy had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome.

She loved cooking, baking, sewing, and tending to her garden. Her lilacs and peonies were among her favorites, and her kitchen was always filled with the comforting smells of something homemade. Above all, Judy adored her family and treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her husband Dennis, daughter and son-in-law Cindy (Todd) Dilley, Lawrence, KS, son and daughter-in-law Scott (Jennife) Bodenhausen, DeSoto, KS, and her cherished grandchildren Jakob Bosnak, Andrea Morris, Kaitlyn Bruce, Sydney Dilley, Carly Bodenhausen, and William Bodenhausen. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Evelyn and Micah Bosnak, Emery and Lyla Bruce, and Vivian Morris, as well as her sister Karen (Robert) Neill, sister Dede (Steve) Caplinger, and brother Allan (Diana) Hundley. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Sherry Gross and Anita Chalfant.

Judy's legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Wanda Lou Peevyhouse, 93, formerly of Muscotah and Horton, KS, went on to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Apostolic Christian Home. She was born on April 27, 1932, in Effingham, Kansas to Lola (Hubbard) and Roy Hamon and was the sister to four brothers, Jay, Dale, Claude and Bob Hamon.

Wanda had the gifts of homemaking and hospitality. She would serve up delicious, made- with-love meals, pies and other goodies. If you left hungry, it was of your own doing. She made beautiful quilts for her family and countless baby blankets to give to family and friends and even women she didn't know by donating them to crisis pregnancy centers.

She enjoyed fishing, sewing, quilting and laughing. Company was always welcomed and appreciated. She sang and played hymns on the piano playing by ear as she never learned to read sheet music.

Wanda married James Peevyhouse on January 12, 1957, and they were blessed with 66 years together before he preceded her in death in March of 2023. They have lovingly been reunited.

Wanda and James were a team. She would work making their home a place of warmth, welcome and love as he worked hard and diligently to provide for them. She was proud to be able to send him off daily with a full stomach, a nicely packed lunch and him looking forward to a hot meal they would enjoy together when he returned home.

Wanda immensely loved her daughter Sharon (Walton)Small. Sharon and her husband Jon (deceased) blessed them with 5 grandchildren, Niki (Terry) Pederson, Joni (Joe) Hackney, Kristi (Kevin) Dalen, Willie Small (Kristin Beyer) and Josh (Bethany) Small. 19 Great-grandchildren Jonathan (Sarah), Ashley (Daniel), Nathan (Cassi), Tyler, Joe l(Alexis), Zack, Jenna (Michael), Kole (Allyah), Jarad, Christian, Daryan (Bradley), Nyah, Lani, Brantley, Sidney, Evelyn, Penny, Jackson and Jillian/ 9 Great-great-grandchildren with two on the way

She also loved her large extended family with special love to her nieces Marilyn (Andy) Wilson, Linda (Dana) Shelley and nephew Bobby Jay (Stacy) Hamon.

Wanda was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Dale, Claude, Jay. and Bob Hamon.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Muscotah Cemetery.

Dorothy Muse, 89, of Verdon, NE, passed away October 11, 2025 at Falls City, NE. She was born January 20, 1936 at St. Paul, KS to John and Josephine (Anderson) Frost.

She married Robert E. Muse on July 4, 1953 at Eureka, AR. He passed away April 21, 1972.

Dorothy was raised at St. Paul and when married the couple established their home in Oregon, MO. When her husband enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, they lived on various military bases until his discharge. She moved to California following his death and she sold produce and raised her family. She moved back to Verdon in May of 1996 and has lived there since. She was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Verdon Shelton and Norma Muse both of Verdon, Joy Roland and her husband Merle of Salem, NE, many grandchildren, including, John Shelton of Verdon, many great-grandchildren, including, John Shelton, Jr. of Falls City. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, three sisters, sons, Robert and William, and a special friend, Paul Jorn.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Grace Bible Fellowship Church with Pastor David Lockard officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery.

William F. Scholl, 74, of Falls City, NE, passed away October 11, 2025 at Falls City. He was born October 27, 1950 at Falls City to Lawrence and Wilma (Mez) Scholl.

He married Joyce Trouba on November 13, 1976 at Cortland, NE and they divorced in 2011.

Bill was raised northeast of Falls City and graduated from Falls City High School in 1969. He worked as a mechanic for John Deere in Falls City and Lincoln as well as owning his own repair shop, Bill's Auto Repair in Havelock and working at Hillcrest Country Club, Gottula Propane and was also a correctional officer at the state prison in Tecumseh. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.

Bill is survived by his sons, Fred of Lincoln, Paul and his wife Caitlin of Firth, NE, Lawrence and his wife Kelli of Omaha, Jacob and his wife Monica of New Port Richey, FL daughters, Carolyn Enevoldsen and her husband Jeff of Lincoln, Sara Scholl of Pawnee City, NE, sister, Eileen Kirkendall of York, NE and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret Scholl.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Fay Ann Blaylock officiating.

Wayne Francis Hochard, 93, of Wetmore, KS, passed away Friday, October 10, 2025 at his home. He was born January 29, 1932 in Corning, KS, the son of Clarence J. and Anna L. (Miller) Hochard.

Wayne graduated from Corning High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1971; earning rank as E-7 and CPO.

He was a lifelong farmer and stockman and worked for Rockwell International in Atchison as a mechanic until retirement.

He was a member of Corning American Legion Post 37 and NRA.

Wayne married Emiko "Emily" Taniguchi on October 7, 1954 in Japan. They celebrated 47 years of marriage before her passing in 2001.

Survivors include 2 sons, John Hochard (Sharon) of Holton, KS and Michael Hochard (Amy) of Topeka, KS; 3 sisters, Theresa Rethman of Corning, KS, Rita Smutny of Hoyt, KS and Patricia Smith of Topeka, KS; a brother, Maurice Hochard of Topeka, KS; 3 grandchildren, Bryon Hochard (Roe), Chase Hochard (Britney) and Cooper Hochard and 5 great-grandchildren, Piper, Bruce, Blair, Maya and Lyla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Anna Hochard; infant daughter, Patricia Hochard; 2 sisters, Rosemary Haug and Irene Donahy; 2 brothers, Clarence, Jr. and Glen Hochard and a granddaughter, Kristen Mellenbruch.

Robin Ethel Vaudrin-Wright, 62, from Blue Rapids, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at her home.

Robin was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Humm and Charlotte (Veach) Humm; her son, Dustan Roy Vaudrin; her brother, Robert Rueter; and her grandmother, Ethel Veach.

Robin is survived by her husband, John Wright of Blue Rapids, Kansas; her son, Zachary Vaudrin of Sterling, Nebraska; her sister, Tina (Dominic) Pagnano of Dawson, Nebraska; her brother, Jesse (Diane) Humm of Palmyra, Nebraska; her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.

Elmer G. Fangman, 90, was born in Seneca/Axtell Kansas on January 28, 1935, and died on October 8, 2025.

Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday , October 13, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Benedict Church in Atchison with burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be on Sunday, Oct. 12th at 3:00 p.m. at St. Benedict Church with visitation to follow until 5:00 p.m.

The son of Paul and Florence Fangman, he grew up on the farm outside of Seneca and started working it at age 7, driving horses plowing the fields at age 12. He was educated in Wildcat, spending grades 1-8 in a four room schoolhouse.

He attended Maur Hill Prep as a boarding student and graduated in 1953. He started at St. Benedict's College in 1953. Considering the priesthood, he moved into St. Benedict's Abbey monastery to begin his novitiate on July 11, 1955. He withdrew for health reasons but remained a lifelong friend of the Abbey. He took time off during college to work in bridge construction and in the elevator at Lincoln Grain. In 1958 he graduated from St. Benedict's College with a degree in political science.

On May 30, 1959, he married Anne E. Supple of Atchison, a graduate of Mount St. Scholastica College. He loved Anne and valued her strength and insight throughout their married life as they raised nine children together. They moved to Dodge City, Kansas, where he taught Political Science, English and Religion at St. Mary of the Plains High School during the 1959-1960 school year.

He served in and earned an Honorable Discharge from the Kansas National Guard in September of 1960.

Elmer taught Citizenship and Social Studies at Central Jr. and Sr. High School in Lawrence, KS during the 1960-1965 school years. He was so appreciated by his students that they secretly ran a county-wide campaign and elected him as Constable of Douglas County, complete with badge and handcuffs.

In the evenings and summers of 1960-1964, he studied and earned a Master's of Science in Education and Counseling from the University of Kansas while he and Anne also were growing their family to include 5 children. During that time, he also served in the United States Army for six months and earned an Honorable Discharge in July, 1963 as an E4.

In the 1965-67 academic years he designed the counseling program and operated as the only guidance counselor for 800 students at Northgate School in Kansas City, MO. During the summers of those 1966 and 1967 years he worked as an employment counselor for the Missouri State Employment Service.

Elmer was one of 30 selected out of 1200 applicants for a National Defense Education program designed to educate Deans of Students at the University of Missouri due to an influx of students into higher education nationally. From 1967 to 1970, he and Anne lived in Columbia, Missouri where he was a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Missouri. Elmer completed all the course work and exams for his Doctor of Education degree in counseling and student personnel services in 1967-1969.

In 1968, he was appointed an Instructor on the academic staff, an Assistant to the Dean and an Academic Advisor in the College of Education at the University of Missouri. He was elected to the University's chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. As part of his work, he was engaged with the programs of 3,800 undergraduate education students.

Through the years of his PhD program, he and Anne's family grew to 8 children. As he was beginning his dissertation he was recruited back to St. Benedict's College for the position of Dean of Students and felt it was more important to return to Atchison in 1970 and help St. Benedict's College as Dean of Students and to assist in the coming merger with Mount St. Scholastica College. As a result, he sacrificed the completion of his PhD in the service of Benedictine College and in earning enough to support his family.

During the 30 years between August of 1970 to his retirement in August of 2000, Elmer held the position of Dean of Students and later also of Vice President of Student Affairs. It is hard to encapsulate his contributions to the life of the college but at various times, his responsibilities included counseling, all athletic programs, all college facilities, financial aid, student activities, health services, career planning and placement, intramural programs, foreign student programs, student publications and housing. In addition, in 1982, he was selected as Administrator of the Year at Benedictine College. He raised the money and sponsored the first Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) program on a college campus. FOCUS has grown to over 210 campuses at this point.

Upon retirement in 2000 he became a licensed professional counselor at All-Faiths Counseling Center.

He was a founding board member of Atchison Achievement Services and helped spearhead the mainstreaming of Down Syndrome children into the Atchison Public Schools. Recognitions of his service to others included the Kansas Monk Award from Benedictine College and the Lumen Vitae Medal from St Benedict's Abbey.

He was a steady hand through years of tumult and a sought after advisor and confidant of many. His life's vocation were his family, his faith and the success of all members of the Benedictine family, with a special attention to the thousands of students he helped shepherd. His life was one of service to others.

Elmer is survived by his children, Dan (Dolly) Fangman, Joan (John) Schuster, Mike (Nancy) Fangman, Susan (Craig) Husting, Paul (Doug) Fangman, John (Jo) Fangman, Colleen (Les) Hubble and Matt (Kathy) Fangman. In addition, he is survived by 24 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Lester (Janet) and John (Fran) and sister, Janie (Joe) Werner. Preceding him in death are his wife, Anne E. (Supple) Fangman and their daughter, Patricia Fangman. Also preceding him in death are his parents and his siblings, Charles, Gilbert, Leonard, Ruth (Haug) and Sr. Esther Fangman.

Seven Michael Boyle, 20, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Atchison, Kansas.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior from 10:00 am-11:00 am. Seven was born April 28, 2005, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Patrick and Lisa Boyle. He graduated from Atchison High School and Highland Technical Center for Building Trades in 2023. Seven loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews who he spoiled any chance he had. He was funny and had a contagious smile. He enjoyed going fishing and riding his minibike around town. Seven loved his car and truck; they were his pride and joy.

Seven is survived by his parents, brother Justin (Katelyn) Boyle, Atchison, KS, sisters Kayla (Robert) Kempin, Atchison, KS, and Cassandra (Bratten) Forbes, Effingham, KS, nieces and nephews Josie, Conner, Mason, Ryder, Ryleigh, Alexis, Drake, Hunter, Serenity, Gary, Harper, and Elleigh, and Grandma Becky Carr.

Ren Marie Avery was born on February 1st, 2008, the second of four children born to Seth and Tessi (Herr) Avery of Humboldt, Nebraska. On Friday, October 3rd, 2025, her life on earth was completed when she was taken home to her Lord due to an early morning car accident on her way to work.

Ren showed her zeal and zest for life by giving everything she had in everything she did. She showed an urgency to live life to the fullest, not because it is fleeting, but because she knew life was worth living. Her sweet, kind smile and her soft, cheery voice helped her to be a natural maker of friends, and wherever she was, a group of friends were around her. She loved them, accepted them, and felt a deep loyalty to them. Her sense of humor was appreciated by all, but her father felt a special connection to the girl who could keep up with the "Avery puns" with the best of them.

Ren enjoyed many hobbies like riding horses with her younger sister and baking home-made goodies for her family to enjoy. However, she spent much of her time making herself into an artist, writer, and musician. A self-taught painter, her canvas paintings array the walls of the Avery home, and a wall mural of The Lord of the Rings Shire adorns the basement hallway. She was in the process of purchasing a 1971 Plymouth Duster from her grandfather to restore and practice on and had already written him the check for the purchase. She was planning to get started on it soon.

Ren enjoyed writing fiction stories and just finished writing an adventure novel. She loved putting the words together; she loved creating the storyline and "showing" her readers her story. Last summer Ren and her mother attended the One Year Adventure Novel Summer Workshop, where Ren was able to connect with her writing community in person.
Music was an integral part of Ren's young life. Piano lessons, singing solos, singing in home school choirs, and participating in church musicals were all a normal part of her schedule. She had a particular fondness for movie scores, especially for John Williams and Hans Zimmer, and talked about them in conversation like you should know who they are. This semester, she and her younger sister joined the Pink Ladies Choir in Nebraska City, and they were enjoying this special once-a-week activity together.

Along with her school schedule, Ren worked several jobs in the area. She was not afraid of hard work, nor was she a complainer. She would volunteer to do anything on the farm, from driving tractors to butchering chickens. For several evenings each week, she worked with her sisters and brother on the Crook Dairy outside Humboldt; she worked several Saturdays each month at Town and Country Vet Clinic in Auburn as a dog-walker; she took on several weekday mornings and Saturdays when The Bookshire Book and Coffee Shop in Peru needed some extra help; and, she was just finishing up her seasonal job for the City of Auburn. She was thankful for each of these jobs and attended each one with an attitude of kindness and service. She especially liked working for the city this summer, driving the dump truck, and working with her "city guys."
At just seventeen, Ren had spiritual maturity beyond her years. At an early age, Ren heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and responded to His call for repentance of sins and belief in His work on the cross as payment for her sins. She loved attending worship services with her family, Awana Bible Club with her grandparents, Bible studies with her friends, and Youth Group at ACC. She desired to grow in her knowledge and love of Jesus, and to serve Him with her life. She was discipled by a young lady and was in turn discipling a lady younger than her. The morning of her car accident, her journal lay on the table, opened to the pages that read, "Friday, October 3, 6:06am…Psalm 39:4-5: 'O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!" Ren would desire for all to hear the call of Jesus as she did and to respond to Him by giving Him your life as well.

Ren was a shining light and a caring soul to all who knew her, and she leaves many friends from the surrounding communities of Humboldt, Auburn, Peru, Nebraska City, and Sabetha and Seneca, Kansas to mourn her. Remembering her with love are her many family members: parents, Seth and Tessi (Herr) Avery; sisters, Jorja and Chani, brother, Thad; grandparents, Daniel & Deborah Avery and Chad & Carol Herr; uncles and aunts, Caleb & Holly Herr, Abbi Gyhra, Cade & Megan Herr, Nicole & the late Luke Avery, and Mark & Anna Hayes; great-grandma Joyce Moerer; and many cousins.

A Celebration of Ren's Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Auburn Christian Church Family Life Center, 1407 Courthouse Avenue in Auburn, Nebraska with Pastors Daniel Hutchison and Zach Shackelford officiating.

Matthew Blake Kuhlmann, 51, of Table Rock, Nebraska was born on October 6, 1973, in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Penny Higgins. Around the age of 3, Matt was adopted by his dad, Orlin. He would spend his youth living in Lincoln before moving to Table Rock to live with his dad as a teenager. Matt attended school in Table Rock where he graduated from Table Rock-Steinauer High School with the class of 1993. Matt grew up with a strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors that he carried throughout his life.

On August 5, 1995, he married the love of his life, Dee Herrick. Their beautiful partnership spanned 30 years and was one of Matt's greatest sources of pride. He was incredibly proud of the family they created.

Matt dedicated his working life to various trades and public service. Over the years, he was a skilled sheet metal worker, a long-haul truck driver that transported animals for a pet company, a bus driver for HTRS, and he did collections for Spectrum for a short time. He also found purpose serving his community as a water/sewer operator and maintenance man for the Village of Table Rock and the City of Pawnee City. At the time of his passing, he held the position of Zoning Administrator for the City of Pawnee City.

While he wasn't working, Matt could be found hunting, fishing or working with his chickens. Above all, however, he cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Matt passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2025, near Table Rock, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of fifty-one years, eleven months, and twenty-four days. He is preceded in death by his mother Penny Higgins, grandparents: Reinhard and Leona Kuhlmann, and Jerry and Dorothy Higgins, and father-in-law Lonnie Herrick.

Roland "Dean" Williams Jr., 79, of Whiting, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born March 4, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Roland Dean Williams, Sr. and Lenamaye (Jones) Williams.

Dean graduated from Wichita North High School in 1964 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. A true craftsman and entrepreneur at heart, Dean built a lifelong career in the production machining industry. He began in sales with Allis-Chalmers before helping to establish SWS in Hiawatha, Kansas. In 1988, his hard work and vision led him to branch out on his own, founding and operating Williams Company, Inc.

On April 3, 1970, Dean married the love of his life, Carol Weekes, in Topeka. Together they celebrated over 55 years of marriage, raised three children, and built a life grounded in perseverance and generosity. Alongside running Williams Company, Inc., Dean and Carol also owned and operated C&D's Food Mart in Whiting, where they proudly served their community for many years.

Dean was known for his tireless work ethic, his generous heart, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He believed deeply in giving back — to his family, his employees, and the town he loved.

Above all, Dean cherished his role as Grandpa. Dean adored his grandchildren and took great joy in creating memories with them on countless adventures — from RV trips through the Badlands and vacations to Arizona and Tennessee, to exploring Hershey Park in Pennsylvania, days at the lake, and even a week-long family getaway on an 80-foot houseboat. His legacy of love, laughter, and togetherness will live on through them.

Dean is survived by his devoted wife, Carol, of the home; three children, Michelle (Justin) Polter of Topeka, Kyle (Lori) Williams of Whiting, and Robyn (Justin) Pierce of Neodesha; his brother Clarence "Leroy" (Pearl) Williams of Mayetta; eight grandchildren, Bailey (Zane) Richter, Garrett Polter, Riley Polter, Cooper Williams, Reece Williams, Brooke Polter, Tysen Pierce, and Braden Pierce; and three great-grandchildren, Denver Kaye, Miles Dean, and Scottie Jo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Lenamaye Williams, and his brother, Karl "Scott" Williams.

Shon Johannes, of rural Powhattan, died Saturday October 4, 2025 at his farm home. Shon was born October 1,1950 in Sabetha Kansas, to Luther and Freda Johannes, and welcomed by his older sister Carol. attended Powhattan grade school and graduated from Powhattan High School as Class President in 1968. Shon was in Future Farmers of America and did all things to do with farming. He attended Highland Junior College and Washburn University but returned to farming when his father had a heart attack.

Through mutual Washburn friends, he met his future bride Florence Anne Melvin, who had moved with her family Col and Mrs. B.F. Melvin to Topeka to serve his last tour of duty with the National Guard. Florence moved to Florida after the tour but reconnected with Shon, who in his short, get to the point manner, asked her "yellow gold or white gold". She returned back to Bradenton, Florida to continue to study at the University of South Florida and plan their wedding for the next summer.

Florence moved to Kansas in June and they were married August 4,1974 after harvest.Florence crocheted her veil and wedding dress and her mother-in-law Freda made their wedding cake. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview by Pastor Hemmen who was also the pastor in Powhattan. The newlyweds settled into a house then moved to a walnut property that his parents owned close to Hiawatha, digging a well and bringing in phone service. During this time, they had their first son, Jonah Albert and 17 months later their first daughter, Sophia Britt.

In 1977 Shon went to work at Jeffrey Energy Center and commuted to work. In 1978 the family moved to rural Fairview to a house owned by Dr. Rodgers in Kansas City. Shon continued commuting until their mail carrier, who was a cousin of Gene Swearingen, told Shon that Gene needed help on his farm north of Hiawatha. Shon and Florence, who missed their farming life, went to work for the Swearingen family and lived in the home that Nancy McCoy Swearingen had grown up in. Shon enjoyed farming for Gene and the family was happy. Jonah and Sophie started school in Hiawatha during this time. Shon and Florence also added their second son, Jacob Andrew in 1980. They were very happy with farming with the Swearingens. At this time, Shon's father and mother decided to move to the walnut property and asked Shon to return to farming the family farm. The family moved to the house Shon grew up in south of Powhattan, where they've lived ever since. Their second daughter Suzannah Bridgette was born two years later in 1982.

Shon was extremely smart, including mechanically, and could fix anything. He was always helping his farmer friends and others. His brothers-in-law were engineers and called about different mechanical questions they were having.

Shon was a fire fighter for the Powhattan Volunteer Fire Department and received a golden ax for over twenty years of service. He served on the Powhattan Cemetery Committee and was Secretary of the Powhattan High School Alumni Association. Closest to his heart in his community was his devotion to the Zion Lutheran Church that just celebrated its 125th year of existence at its present location. Shon's maternal grandfather was among the group that moved the Church from rural Mercier to its location in Powhattan. Shon was filled with faith and prayer and was very involved in the Church, volunteering his time to ensure the Church continued to welcome and serve its small congregation.

As his children grew up and graduated school in Hiawatha and all earned their college degrees, the eldest Jonah from K-State, Jacob and Suzie from KU, and Sophie from KU and law degree from Notre Dame, Shon also continued to grow and went into organic farming. He and Florence celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the beach in California. Just this year, he started to grow non-GMO crops, all the while maintaining a large commercial orchard of fruit trees,
blackberries, Ogalalla strawberries, and more fruit trees around their home.

Shon loved his family and friends, delighted in his children and grandchildren, loved his church, his mornings at Powhattan COOP morning coffee group and his partner for life, Florence. He issurvived by his wife Florence, his four children, ten grandchildren, his sister Carol and his brother-in-law John Melvin. He will be greatly missed. He was a true Renaissance man who could appreciate all kinds of music, art, literature and life.

Barry Lyndell Handley, 68, of Barada, NE, passed away October 3, 2025 at Barada. He was born May 2, 1957 at Falls City to Bryce and Alma (Shafer) Handley

Barry attended the two-room Barada country school through 8th grade and later graduated from Southeast Consolidated High School. After graduation, Barry pursued his lifelong interest in mechanics at an automotive trade school in Omaha.

Barry's love of engines and problem-solving began early. While still in high school, he worked at his uncle Wayne Barker's automotive garage repairing carburetors and engines. He became a jack of many trades and an expert at many more. He approached projects with meticulous care, often taking things apart to clean, repair and reassemble them with a precision that was uniquely his own. Barry was an avid collector, a master at repurposing, and someone who enjoyed a late night out. He kept a vast collection of notes and reminders, always distinctly organized and thorough. Barry did not care about fashion, flashy cars, or anything fancy, but he did have opinions. He found great joy in spending time with friends and family and had a knack for making people feel at ease.

Barry is survived by his siblings, Marcia Reimers, Lana Willman, Randy Handley, Angie Alexander and Jan Alexander and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Harris Cemetery.

Vickie Oliver, 70, of Dawson, NE, passed away October 5, 2025 at Dawson. She was born February 7, 1955 at Parkston, SD to Robert and Velvajane (Weisz) Sopoci

She married David Oliver in 1973 at Falls City. He passed away November 12, 2020.

Vickie was raised at Shubert and graduated Southeast Consolidated High School in 1973. When married the couple made their home in Shubert and then moved to Lake Charles, LA where she worked as a retail clerk in different stores before moving back to the Dawson area in 2015, where she has lived since.

Vickie is survived by her son, Corey and his wife Tracy of Dawson, brother, Kevin Sopoci of Falls City, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Randy Lee Sopoci, daughter, Mandy Oliver and two grandchildren in infancy.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Shubert Community Building.

William (Bill) S. Jadwin, son of Billy John Jadwin and Bonnie Lou (Cummings) Jadwin-Hartley, passed away October 4, 2025 after a long illness.

Mr. Jadwin was born November 11, 1953 in Atchison, KS. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Sabetha, Ks. Bill attended school in Sabetha until the family moved to Bangkok, Thailand in 1968 due to his father's position as a foreign diplomat with the U.S. Department of State. Bill attended the International School of Bangkok until he graduated high school in 1971, after which he returned to the United States.

On May 20, 1973 he married Deborah Blanton of Hiawatha, Ks. The couple had three children.

Although they divorced in 1992, Deborah and Bill remained very close friends.

Known affectionately to many of his friends as the "Red Bull" or simply as "The Bull" he had worked at Harmon Tire Company in Falls City, Ne. Also worked at Flair Fold in Hiawatha KS. Later worked at Prime Trucking Company in Springfield, MO.

Bill returned to Hiawatha in 2003 after suffering a major strokes which left him permanently disabled where he lived until his passing.

He is survived by a daughter Staci (Randy) Thaxton of Hiawatha, Ks and two sons, Cory (Misty) Jadwin of Kansas City, Mo and Christopher Jadwin and friend Elizabeth Dudley of San Diego.
Bill is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Samantha, Drew (Kylie), Parker, Caitlyn, Tyler, Chase, Brookelyn, Mike (Tonja), Susan, Trent and Blake. 5 great grandchildren, Natalie, Anakin, Lucas, Benson and Michael.

He is also survived by three brothers, Dennis Ray Jadwin of Universal City, TX. Bradley John Jadwin of La Mesa, CA. and Brett Lough Jadwin of Greenwood, Ne.

Mr. Jadwin was proceeded in death by both his parents and an older brother Kelly Dean Jadwin of Lincoln, Ne

Gehring Construction for many years. He also served in groundskeeping and maintenance at Mt. St. Scholastica until his retirement.

In 1960, Bill married Dorothy Joan Goehner, but they later divorced. From that union came three daughters: Terri Lynn, Raye Ann, and Kathy Joan. In 1974, Bill married Loretta (Cookie) Goodpasture and had one daughter, Jodi, but they later divorced. A brief marriage to Juanita Montoya followed. In 1984, Bill then married Mary Ballinger and had one son, John William, but they later divorced.
Bill's favorite hobbies and pastimes included being ornery, welding, fishing, shooting guns, and going on country road trips. He often visited a vast array of people and enjoyed keeping his great-grandkids stocked with gummy bears and worms.

Michael Douglas Underwood, 64, of Atchison, KS died on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

Michael was born on May 25, 1961, in Atchison, KS, the son of Clyde and Dorothy (Shell) Underwood. He attended Atchison schools and worked as a maintenance mechanic for Mid-West Grain Products for over 26 years. His family was members of the First Christian Church, where he attended as a young boy. Michael enjoyed bowling, hunting, working on cars, going to the casino's and spending time with his family.

Survivors include three sons, Christopher (Sara Hamilton) Underwood, Atchison, David (Shelby) Underwood, Atchison, and Brad Berkstresser, Kansas City. Two brothers, Jim (Mechelle) Underwood, and John (Mario) Underwood, both of Atchison, KS, two sisters, Linda Underwood, and Barb (Rodney) Griffin, both of Atchison, KS, sister-in-law Melinda Underwood, one granddaughter, Hannah Underwood, and one baby on the way. His parents preceded him in death, and a brother, Dick Underwood.

Jill Ellen (Reichart) Ellerman, 62, of Valley Falls, KS, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. She was born December 30, 1962 in Horton, KS, the daughter of Raymond "Gene" and Betsy "Jane" (Turner) Reichart.

Jill graduated from ACCHS in 1981 and from NEKA Vo-Tech in Atchison, KS after 2 years.

Jill and her husband, Carl, delivered the Topeka Capital Journal for many years in Nortonville and Valley Falls. She worked 20 years for Lowry & Johnson Law Office as a Legal Secretary and as the secretary for Valley Falls United Methodist Church for 10 years.

Jill was an active and life-time member of Coal Creek United Methodist Church; serving as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and Administrative Board Chair.

Jill enjoyed her flower garden, working in the yard and baking.

She married Carl Levi Ellerman, Jr. on November 11, 1994 at Coal Creek United Methodist Church in Valley Falls, KS. They celebrated over 30 years of marriage.

Survivors include her husband, Carl of the home; 2 brothers, Jeffrey R. Reichart (Beverly) of Valley Falls, KS and Neill J. Reichart (Bobbi) of Alma, KS and many nieces and nephews.

Charlene Rae Herbers, 75, of Holton, KS, passed away Thursday , October 2, 2025 at the Onaga Hospital in Onaga, KS. She was born January 7, 1950 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Kenneth Eugene and Deloris Irene (Schmidt) Reaser.

Charlene graduated from Denison High School in 1968 and was the Homecoming Queen. She graduated from Washburn University with a Business Degree in 1972 and later earned her Real Estate License in 1992.

Charlene wore many hats and her dedication and work ethic could not be matched. Before starting her career, she worked on the dairy farm and raised her kids. After her kids were in school full time, she worked at the Jackson County ASCS Office and was a substitute teacher at Holton and Jackson Heights. She sold Real Estate for over twenty-five years for Pagel Realty & Auction, retiring in 2017. After retirement, she worked as a receptionist at Complete Chiropractic Care.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church serving as church organist for many years. She was a member of the National Association of Realtors & Kansas Board of Realtors and served as president for one year. She was a past 4-Her and 4-H Leader.

On November 25, 1970, Charlene was united in marriage to Ralph E. Herbers at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton. They shared over 54 years of marriage.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph of the home; children, Jeff Herbers (Heather) and Denise Peters (David) both of Holton, KS and Doug Herbers (Breanna) of San Diego, CA; 3 grandchildren, Sophie Herbers, Dani Peters and Dalton Peters and 2 bonus grandchildren, Eryn (Justen) and Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Deloris Reaser.

My name is Jean M. Soden. Please call me Jeanie. Today is October 1, 2025, and I'm making my last entry in the daily journal that I've kept since retiring from teaching in 1997. My husband of 64 years, Gerald, and my sons, Greg and Jim, are here to help me remember. You see, ten years ago, I was diagnosed with dementia, and on April 12, 2023, I moved to Brandon Woods Memory Care in Lawrence. For the wonderful staff members who were always so patient with me, I thank you and am grateful for your kindness.

So let's start from the beginning. I was born on November 2, 1934. My parents, Vernon and Fern (Gilliland) Moorshead, lived in Breckenridge, Missouri. I remember living my younger years with my grandparents and older brother, Jimmy, who died at a young age. I graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1952 and from William Jewell College in 1955. After graduating from college, I worked one year at the Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City while also getting my teaching certificate. I then moved to Robinson, KS to teach. It was there I met a young man named Gerald. We kept in touch as my journeys took me to Stanford University where I completed a fellowship, Santa Barbara High School where I taught math, and Oregon State University where I got my master's degree in 1960. I then moved to Downey, California, where I worked at North America Aviation.

On February 4, 1961, Gerald (Pops) and I were married in Santa Monica, California. With the arrival of Greg to our union, we decided Kansas would be our home. My teaching career started again at Midway High School, and my youngest son, Jim, completed our family in 1964. My teaching career continued as a high school and middle school math teacher in Robinson until 1997.

I am able to remember the many adventures of times past, however, please don't ask me to remember what happened five minutes ago. I treasure the wonderful memories I have of motorcycling in the Blue Ridge mountains, traveling through many states in RVs, and spending winters in Arizona. The lake home Pops and I retired to on the shores of Table Rock Lake brings back memories of many visits of family and friends. We enjoyed one another's company on the lake and in Branson.

This entry to my journal today will be my last on this earth. I'm tired and ready to gather with family and friends who have passed before me. I can't remember all the names, but I am hoping to remember the faces. I'm leaving behind my husband Gerald, my sons Greg (and Denise) and Jim (and Steph), seven grandchildren, Caleb Soden, Colby Soden, Travis (and Bri) Coots, Tim (and Kiley) Coots, Tara (and Danny) Rials, Taylor Wallis, and Nacio Soden, six great grandchildren, Wade and Jackson Coots, Easton and Bodhi Coots, and Mia and Sammy Rials, my sisters Vernetta (and Dennis) McDonald, K (and Jim) Talbot, and Francis Schoolcraft, and my brother Vernon (and Carla) Moorshead.

I hope as you read this last journal entry, you will not be sad, but that you will laugh and smile as you remember your school days with me and all the visits we have had throughout the years. This life has been a wonderful journey. It's getting late and I see my daddy's hand reaching for me, so I must go. Goodbye.

A celebration of Jeanie's life will be held at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, located at 124 South 7th, in Hiawatha, KS on October 18, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Please dress in casual attire, whereas Jeanie would want everyone to be comfortable. Everyone is invited to share a story of remembrance if you would like to do so. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Todd Widman Memorial Scholarship fund, sent in care of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home.

Robert A. McGregor, age 64, of Atchison, KS, died on September 22, 2025, at Amberwell Atchison.

Rob was born August 22, 1961, in Atchison, KS, the son of Gary McGregor and Donna (Buffon) and lived most of his life in Atchison. He was a 1979 graduate of Atchison High School, where he ran track and field and played football. He earned a BS in Physics from Kansas State University in 1983, as well as a master's degree from Emporia State University in 1988. He was accepted into a Physic PhD program at Perdue right before his long, struggle with mental illness began.

He was a talented artist, was very creative and loved to play the piano. He was highly intelligent and spent a summer internship at the Los Alamos Atomic Place while in college.

Rob is survived by both his parents, Gary (Rebecca) McGregor and Donna (Chuck) Swank; siblings, James (Peggy) McGregor, William (Jann) McGregor, who was his guardian and helped as a caretaker for many years, MaryJean (Jerry) Schmalz and Laura Lou (Todd) Harper; and his several nieces and nephews and two step nephews.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Heppler officiating. Friends may visit the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Rob has been cremated and private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials can be left to the Atchison Humane Society or the Atchison Library. Service care entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

Rob was loved dearly by his family and will be very missed

Norma Jean (Lierz) Hirt, age 88, of Waterville, passed away at her home on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Local survivors include her two sisters, Alberta (Larry) Tanking and Shirley (Orville) Hutfles, of Holton.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville.

The inurnment will be at Marysville City Cemetery.
